Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, University of Chicago Medicine, as an Assistant Patient Care Manager in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) department. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
The Margaret M. and George A. Stephen Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Comer Children's Hospital is among the largest in the Midwest, with approximately 1,000 admissions every year. Our NICU features 47 designated tertiary care beds (Level III) and 18 convalescent (Level II) beds.
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) can be provided for up to three infants at a time by a special group of ECMO specialists who supplement the NICU nursing staff. The Assistant Patient Care Manager (APCM) will be responsible and accountable for over-seeing the operations and patient flow of a designated Care Center on her/his respective shift. Duties include completing daily or shift specific quality audits and Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI) boards, facilitate daily huddles with staff, and directing delivery of quality, patient-centered care in a financially responsible manner.
This is in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Patient Care Manager (PCM). In the absence of the PCM, the APCM assumes responsibility for the unit. APCM supports PCM with 24/7 coverage of the unit.

Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher. Current Illinois RN license Minimum of two years nursing experience.
Minimum of one year clinical experience in the NICU. Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
Master’s degree preferred. Specialty certifications preferred. NICU experience starting at level III Experience working at an academic medical center and in a unionized environment preferred.
Charge nurse experience with demonstrated leadership skills and/or equivalent experience. Position Details Full-time, 1.0 FTE
