An Associate Researcher position is available within the Tisch Cancer Center and the Division of Hematology/Medical Oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative group of investigators in the Myeloproliferative Neoplasms Research Consortium (MPN-RC) led by Dr. Ronald Hoffman.
The laboratory focuses on investigating the stem cell biology of myeloproliferative neoplasms through the use of primary patient samples, induced pluripotent stem cell models, and state-of-the-art cellular and molecular technologies. We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and committed individual who will be responsible for performing laboratory work in support of basic, translational, and clinical research studies.
The individual will work closely with laboratory personnel and investigators to conduct experiments, analyze data, and support ongoing research initiatives. Responsibilities Under direct supervision, conducts routine and standardized experiments using research techniques specific to the laboratory's research projects. Prepares culture media, reagents, and other materials required for cell culture and laboratory procedures.
Isolates and processes primary patient samples using density gradient centrifugation, magnetic cell separation, and cryopreservation techniques. Performs in vitro cell culture, cell-based assays, and maintenance of human primary cells and induced pluripotent stem cell cultures. Assists with animal studies, including cell preparation, transplantation procedures, post-transplant monitoring, sample collection, and tissue harvesting from xenografted mice.
Performs sample preparation, staining, and flow cytometric analyses. Conducts basic molecular biology procedures including DNA, RNA, and protein isolation, quantitative PCR, genotyping, and Western blot analysis. Maintains accurate and detailed experimental records and laboratory documentation.
Analyzes and assists in the interpretation of experimental data. Assists in the preparation of standard operating procedures, figures, presentations, progress reports, and scientific manuscripts. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Bachelors Degree in sciences or related field or equivalent experience 2 years in a research environment or 1 year plus Masters Degree in sciences or related field Preferred: Experience with human primary cell culture is required; experience with hematopoietic stem cells is strongly preferred Experience with induced pluripotent stem cell culture is highly desirable Working knowledge of flow cytometry and basic molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid isolation, PCR, and protein analysis Experience with animal research and mouse handling Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to maintain detailed experimental records and work effectively in both independent and collaborative research settings Demonstrated commitment to scientific research and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced laboratory environment
