The Associate Vice President (AVP), Cardiology Service Line is responsible for the strategy, growth, and operational performance of Mary Washington Healthcare’s Cardiovascular Service Line across the enterprise.

In partnership with physician and nursing leaders, the AVP develops and executes integrated service line strategies that drive volume growth, financial performance, quality outcomes, and patient experience across inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory settings. The AVP serves as a system-level leader—aligning hospitals, the medical group, ambulatory sites, and system services around clear service line priorities, coordinated care models, and a consistent market presence.

Strategy & GrowthDevelops and executes a multi-year strategic plan for the Cardiology Service Line aligned with system priorities. Identifies and advances market development and programmatic growth opportunities. Leads business planning, including market assessments, demand forecasting, and financial analyses.

Partners with Strategy, Finance, and Marketing to develop and implement growth and outreach initiatives. Represents the service line in annual operating plan development and capital planning. Clinical & Operational ManagementPartners with physician and nursing leaders to design and implement coordinated care models across the continuum.

Establishes and standardizes clinical pathways, operating models, and administrative practices across all sites of care. Leads day-to-day operational performance of service line areas in collaboration with site leadership. Sets clear performance expectations for leaders and teams across the service line.

Conducts regular one-on-one meetings, provides coaching, and completes performance evaluations for direct reports. Ensures leaders have the tools, resources, and support necessary to effectively manage their teams and operations. Improves patient access, throughput, and coordination to enhance efficiency and outcomes.

Oversees staffing models, scheduling practices, and resource allocation across service line functions. Financial Performance & ManagementLeads development and management of service line budgets, capital plans, and financial forecasts. Monitors and drives performance against key results, including volume, revenue, expense, and margin targets.

Optimizes resource utilization, reimbursement, and cost management across the service line. Oversees financial performance of service line programs, clinics, and procedural areas. Quality, Safety & Patient ExperiencePartners with clinical leaders to achieve quality, safety, and patient experience goals.

Leads performance improvement initiatives and supports accreditation and designation efforts. Drives adoption of evidence-based care and continuous improvement practices. Physician Alignment & EngagementBuilds and sustains strong relationships with employed and independent cardiology physicians.

Partners on physician workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies. Develops, implements, and manages cardiology co-management agreements to align physician leadership with quality, operational, and financial performance. Supports physician compensation models, contracting, and engagement structures.

Fosters a collaborative service line culture and a strong clinical practice “home.”Program Development & InnovationIdentifies and implements new clinical programs, technologies, and service offerings. Collaborates with academic and industry partners to advance innovation and clinical research. Evaluates and engages external consultants and partners as appropriate.

Performance Management & AnalyticsEstablishes and maintains service line scorecards and dashboards. Uses data and analytics to identify variation, drive improvement, and support decision-making. Leads service line governance structures, including committees and performance reviews.

Leadership & CultureProvides visible, collaborative leadership across a matrixed organization. Leads, develops, and coaches direct reports and service line team members. Supports workforce engagement, leadership development, and change management.

Ensures effective communication and alignment across stakeholders. Regulatory & ComplianceEnsures compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards. Partners with Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management to mitigate risk.

QualificationsMaster’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare strategy, operations, or service line management. Experience in cardiovascular services or complex clinical service lines preferred.

Demonstrated experience in financial planning, market analysis, and business development. Proven ability to lead in a matrixed, physician-integrated environment.
