In this role, you'll find: The opportunity to lead within a 20-bed Labor & Delivery unit and partner closely with our 16-bed Special Maternity unit , caring for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and high-risk obstetric patients. A leadership schedule of 7 :00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. , providing strong operational support during some of the unit's busiest hours. A high-volume, high-acuity environment where strong clinical expertise and leadership make a meaningful impact every day.
The ability to care for a diverse patient population, including high-risk pregnancies involving hypertension, preeclampsia, diabetes, and other maternal-fetal complications. As the Assistant Nurse Manager for Labor & Delivery, you'll partner with the Nurse Manager to provide clinical, operational, and professional leadership for a dynamic team caring for patients across the continuum of obstetric care. You'll serve as a visible leader, mentor, and resource while fostering a culture centered on safety, accountability, teamwork, and remarkable patient experiences. Key responsibilities include: Supporting daily operations of a high-volume Labor & Delivery unit that averages 365 to 450 births each month .
Providing leadership and clinical support for nurses caring for antepartum, intrapartum, and high-risk obstetric patients. Leveraging strong Labor & Delivery clinical expertise to support complex patient populations and rapidly changing patient conditions. Serving as a trusted mentor, coach, and resource to nursing staff, helping team members grow professionally while maintaining high standards of clinical practice.
Fostering a positive and engaged team culture by promoting accountability, collaboration, recognition, and open communication. Supporting recruitment, onboarding, retention, and engagement efforts to build and sustain a high-performing team. Collaborating with physicians, advanced practice providers, educators, and interdisciplinary partners to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centered care.
Monitoring quality, safety, patient experience, and operational metrics while leading and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Supporting staffing and resource management in a fast-paced environment where nurses commonly manage a two-patient assignment model . Participating in an on-call leadership rotation, approximately one weekend every six weeks across Women's Services.
When scheduled on a holiday weekend, leaders are expected to take call coverage, while weekday holiday coverage is compensated with time off. What We're Looking For
4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. BSN, preferred. Graduate Degree, preferred
Minimum of two years of clinical RN experience, preferred. Prior demonstrated nursing leadership, preferred. Licensure/Certification: Current RN licensure in appropriate state, required.
NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions (facility specific) within 3 months of hire for Emergency Departments and Behavioral Health units, required. Unit/Dept Specific Required Certifications. Additional Skills (required): Successful completion of generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing.
