OverviewProvides medical care to patients in specialty area within scope of privileges; participates in departmental education and research activities; assists in administrative duties of department.

This position will report to report to the Division Director. ResponsibilitiesPatient Disease EvaluationReviews patient records, laboratory results, and laboratory images to evaluate patient diseaseOrders tests as needed, interprets test results in coordination with others, as necessaryEvaluates extent of disease; stages extent of disease. Consultation Participates in consultative services of department, recommends and/or performs special studies, tests; participates in interpretation of test and study resultsConsults with potential patientsConsults with referring physiciansCompletes all documentation in patient medical recordsEducates and counsels patient, family and care givers on medical condition, medications prescribed, plan of care and follow-up to treatment; participates in discharge planning process as appropriateParticipates in consultative services of department and division, recommending and/or performing special studies, tests; participates in interpretation of test and study results.

Education/TrainingSupervises, teaches and evaluates fellows, residents and medical students rotating through the division as directed; prepares and delivers subspecialty lectures and conferences; participates in Grand Rounds and conducts teaching rounds as requiredAssists in managing and conducting training programs; recommends changes in curriculum structure as appropriate and participates in developing new educational programsSupervises Physician's Assistants and residents as required; reviews and signs off on PA and resident charts; performs other chart reviews as directed.

Faculty PracticeDevelops and practices in department's Faculty Practice, including outreach facilities as assigned. ResearchEngages in clinical research and, where applicable, in basic research projects; directs and/or supervises research fellows as appropriate; publishes and presents results of research projects in a timely manner. Quality Assurance/Quality ImprovementAssists Chairperson and/or Director in establishing procedures to ensure consistency and quality of all services provided by the department and/or division; participates in Medical Center's Quality Assurance program in accordance with the policies of the Medical Center and regulatory agencies.

AdministrationAttends and participates in Medical Center and department committees as required by the Director or ChairpersonWorks with Director or Chairperson to develop protocols and standards of care that are in compliance with requirements of the Joint Commission and other regulatory agenciesAssists Chairperson and/or Director in departmental administration as required; recommends modifications or upgrades to equipment, implementation of new procedures; prepares reports and analyses as requiredMaintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standardsDemonstrates safe practices when in contact or proximity to radioactive sources and or materials QualificationsEducation:Graduate from an accredited medical schoolGraduate from an accredited Internal Medicine Residency ProgramAmerican Board of Internal Medicine certification in Internal MedicineBoard certified/Board eligible in specialty area; Board eligible physicians are required to sit for and pass their Board examinations at the earliest date possible.

Evidence of formal, supervised training or clinical experience as required for certain procedures. Valid and unlimited license to practice medicine in the State of New YorkValid license to prescribe controlled substances. ACLS/BCLS CertificationValid DEA Certification

Demonstrated experience in area of specialty as set forth in credentialing requirements for that specialty.

Technical skills required for practice in specialty. Good oral and written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills.

Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.
