Job Summary The Vascular Echo Sonographer performs non-invasive diagnostic procedures to assess cardiovascular health, including echocardiography, vascular studies, and electrocardiograms (EKGs). This role ensures the acquisition of high-quality images and accurate diagnostic data to support physicians in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular and peripheral vascular conditions.
Performs diagnostic echocardiograms, carotid duplex studies, venous/arterial studies, and EKGs in accordance with established protocols Reviews patient history and communicates exam expectations and procedures Operates imaging equipment and adjusts parameters for optimal image quality Documents findings, ensures completion of exams, and communicates critical results as needed Responds appropriately to changes in patient condition and alerts nursing/medical staff Assists with safety checks, infection control procedures, and equipment troubleshooting Maintains adequate patient comfort, dignity, and privacy throughout procedures Participates in call rotation and weekend/holiday schedules as required Ensures timely completion of documentation and exam logs Supports continuous quality improvement efforts and maintains competency in imaging standards Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations Advanced knowledge of cardiac and vascular anatomy and physiology Proficient in the use of ultrasound systems and PACS documentation Effective interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and allied health personnel Must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to multitask in a clinical setting Must be able to stand, walk, and assist with patient positioning and equipment transport Qualifications Education High school diploma or equivalent required Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Technology program preferred Licenses/Certifications Registered or registry-eligible with ARDMS (RDCS and RVT) or CCI (RCS and RVS); must obtain registry within 12 months of hire Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Experience Minimum two (2) years of experience in echocardiography and vascular sonography preferred Must demonstrate strong critical thinking and the ability to function with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
