Cerified Phlebotomy Technician - Oncology, San Luis Obispo

Description In this role, you will perform specimen collection, processing, and laboratory support functions to ensure timely and accurate patient care, including support for oncology infusion workflows and time-sensitive treatment decisions. Major duties include venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures, proper specimen labeling and handling, documentation in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Laboratory Information System (LIS), and coordination with clinical and laboratory teams to support efficient workflows.

You will ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety standards while providing compassionate care to oncology patients in a high-quality, patient-centered environment. Salary range: $36.17/hr - $45.86/hr Qualifications Required: Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT1 or 2). Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

High school diploma or GED. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program. Minimum 2-3 years of phlebotomy experience.

Proficiency in venipuncture, skin puncture, and pediatric draws. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in high-volume settings.

Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods. Ability to lift or carry up to 30 lbs of supplies or equipment.

Manual dexterity to operate lab equipment and perform blood draws safely. Ability to travel between UCLA Health community oncology practice sites as needed. Skill in performing with frequent interruptions and/or distractions including the ability to respond to changing priorities and deadlines.

Preferred: 1 year of experience with EMR and LIS systems. Understanding of oncology patient needs, including infection prevention for immunocompromised individuals. Familiarity with research specimen handling and documentation.
