✓Requirements
Licensure
✓Must be registered by the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR) and licensed as a Dietitian or Nutritionist in the state(s) of practice.
Certifications
✓CDCES will maintain certification on insulin pumps based upon location requirements.
✓Must hold and maintain certification as a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist from the National Certification Board of Diabetes Care and Education Specialist or obtain that certification within three years when eligible.
Education
✓Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in dietetics or food and nutrition through an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited program.
✓For graduates after 2024, a Masters degree is required per ACEND.
Qualifications
✓Clinical nutrition experience through an approved Coordinated Graduate Program or post graduate internship is required. Three years of experience as a Registered Clinical Dietitian. Must have a thorough knowledge of normal nutrition, diabetes self-management skills and medical nutrition therapy.
