Position Relationships: A. Responsible to: Director of Pharmacy, Assistant Director of Pharmacy, Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, and Staff Pharmacists. B.

Workers Supervised: None C. Interrelationships: Pharmacy staff, nursing staff, other MCHS departments, and outside pharmacies. Responsibilities and Authorities: A.

Performs other duties as assigned by the department’s management staff. B. As patient care and/or hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.

C. Participates in and promotes the “I CARE” service philosophy of Integrity, Customer Centered, Accountability, Respect and Excellence. D.

Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations. E. Responsible for the daily routine of packaging, dispensing, compounding of all drugs and sterile IV solutions, and the distribution to patient areas.

F. Assist pharmacists as needed. G.

Deliver floor stock medication, patient-specific medication, and emergency boxes and crash carts to patient areas. H. Process and deliver controlled substances to patient care areas.

I. Collect and return unused medications from patient care areas to pharmacy for appropriate processing. Knowledge to operate, restock and maintain inventory of robot and med carousel.

K. Package and label medication with proper information. L.

Knowledge to restock, unload and inventory the automated dispensing machines in patient care areas. M. Monthly inspections of medication areas as assigned.

Prepare compounded sterile products. Knowledge to operate and understand pharmacy computer system. Performance Factors Used to Evaluate Employee: Demonstrate complete knowledge of job.

Shows ability to quickly and accurately perform daily routine tasks. Strong patient care orientation, self-motivated, good interpersonal communication and problem solving skills and the ability to work effectively as a team player.

Maintain a current Pharmacy Tech Certification from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. B. Training and

Competent in all Certified Pharmacy Technician I tasks. Must be employed at MCHS for a minimum of 12 months. Achieve IV certification and perform at acceptable competency level for a minimum of 6 months.

Must maintain State Board required IV certification to remain in this role. Type 25 wpm accurately C. Job Knowledge: Strong multi-tasking, computer entry, good customer service and communication skills needed.

Ability to prioritize work to meet customer needs. Ability to perform mathematical calculations to perform accurate dosing. Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician I required.

Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions: A. The following physical activities are spent during a major portion of the day and it is a must that a person is in physical condition in order to accomplish given tasks: Activity Percentages of Time Less than 33% Less than 66% Over 66% Stand X Walk X Sit X Use hands to finger, handle or feel X Reach with hands and arms X Climb or balance X Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl X B.

The job requires that certain amounts of weight be lifted or force be exerted as noted in the following chart.
