• The Child Life Program provides services by consult to families, with children between the ages of 0
• 18 years, of patients with varied diagnoses within Froedtert Hospital and the Clinical Cancer Center. Adult patients may be facing an inpatient hospitalization for a traumatic or life threatening illness or care is being provided for a new/ongoing diagnosis and subsequent treatment in out patient areas. Acting as an advocate for children and their families, the Child Life Specialist designs, implements and evaluates individual and group programs adhering to the Standards of Clinical Practice and the competencies of the Child Life Specialist as specified by the Child Life Council (CLC) utilizing principles of Child Development, Psychology, Therapeutic Recreation and related disciplines in order to promote optimum development and maintenance of normal living patterns and to minimize psychological trauma to children, adolescents and families. The Child Life Specialist provides opportunities for gaining a sense of: learning, self-esteem, self-expression, family involvement and peer interaction. EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION: A minimum of 3 years of full-time experience as a Child Life Specialist in a hospital or ambulatory care setting is required. A minimum of 5 years or more of full-time experience as a Child Life Specialist in a hospital or ambulatory care setting is preferred. Experience working with well children of ill adults is preferred. EDUCATION DESCRIPTION: Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Psychology, Child Development or Therapeutic Recreation with emphasis in Child Life/Child Development is required. LICENSURE DESCRIPTION: Must be certified as a Child Life Specialist (CCLS). American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 3 months of hire.
