We’re looking for Critical Care Flight Transport Paramedics who are committed to providing high-quality emergency and critical care during patient transport. In this role, you’ll assess, treat, and monitor critically ill or injured adult and pediatric patients during inter-facility transports and scene emergency calls while working within established protocols, standing orders, and the California Paramedic scope of practice.
You’ll provide basic and advanced life support, perform emergency procedures as needed, maintain transport equipment and supplies, and document patient assessments, interventions, and responses. Key Responsibilities Respond to patient care and critical care transport calls according to program protocols.
Provide routine and emergency patient care in the transport environment in accordance with CCT policies, protocols, standards of care, standing orders, and medical control of the Flight Program Medical Director. Provide care within the California Paramedic scope of practice and CCT standardized procedures. Assess, treat, and monitor critically ill or injured adult and pediatric patients.
Complete an assessment on each transport patient and document findings, therapeutic interventions, patient responses, and physician transport orders on the CCT Patient Care Record. Perform emergency procedures within scope of practice, including CPR and oral endotracheal intubation. Complete daily and regularly scheduled transport unit equipment checks.
Maintain equipment in working order and ensure transport vehicles remain clean and fully stocked. Complete required supply, billing, data collection, controlled substance, and transport documentation accurately. Participate in CCT Program Quality Improvement activities, continuing education, training, required staff meetings, and annual training.
Maintain knowledge of current critical care paramedic practice and applicable California EMT and EMT-P scopes of practice. Maintain all required licenses and certifications. Communicate effectively with patients and families, hospital staff, community members, nurses, EMTs, ALS/BLS Operations personnel, CCT administration, and other collaborating agencies.
Represent the CCT Flight program, Liberty Ambulance, and Ridgecrest Regional Hospital professionally. Adhere to all applicable company policies, procedures, codes of safe practice, and Critical Care Transport policies and protocols. Perform other duties as assigned.
Use the manual dexterity necessary to operate complex equipment, prepare medications, use computers, and document patient care. Lift, transfer, carry, and reposition patients, supplies, and equipment using the required range of movement. Collaborative Teamwork This role involves working closely with nurses, EMTs, ALS/BLS Operations personnel, hospital staff, physicians, CCT administration, and other collaborating agencies to provide effective patient transport and critical care services while contributing to a supportive and collaborative work environment.
Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Current California Paramedic License. Kern County Accreditation or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
Minimum of three years of paramedic experience in a busy 911 setting, including experience with: Management of unstable adult cardiac patients. Management of unstable patients of other etiologies. Patients requiring mechanical ventilator support.
Patients requiring invasive hemodynamic monitoring. Knowledge of professional paramedic practice and theory. Ability to learn the principles and practices of patient transport flight operations through successful completion of the CCT orientation and training program.
Ability to independently assess, plan, organize, implement, and evaluate patient care activities. Ability to prioritize, delegate, and use critical thinking skills in a variety of patient care situations. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and maintain effective working relationships with patients and families, fellow personnel, hospital staff, the public, and collaborating agencies.
Current ACLS, PALS, NRP, BLS, and PHTLS certifications. FP-C certification within six months of hire. Valid driver’s license.
Required ICS courses: IS-100B (ICS 100) IS-200B (ICS 200) IS-700A (NIMS) IS-800B (NIMS) Must weigh less than 215 pounds fully dressed at the time of hire and maintain that weight. Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in the English language. Current critical care inter-facility transfer experience preferred.
