ExemptA Brief OverviewPerforms microscopic screening of gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens. Identifies all cases with abnormal findings for pathologist review, recording all findings in the EMR to produce accurate reports. Processes both gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens. Works with pathologists and other members of the healthcare and laboratory team to provide high quality laboratory results while upholding the Stormont Vail Tenets of compassion, patient safety and privacy, and improving the health of our community.Education QualificationsBachelor's Degree Specializing in cytotechnology. RequiredSkills and AbilitiesFollows all applicable OSHA guidelines. Follows all hospital and departmental safety procedures. RequiredWhat you will doUtilizing microscopic technique, screens glass slides according to established procedure for detecting abnormal or cancerous cells. Records findings accurately in the medical record.Identifies and appropriately marks cellular abnormalities. Works in close collaboration with pathologists to provide accurate and timely diagnoses.Assists with fine needle aspiration collection and evaluation.Correlates cytologic findings with findings from subsequent biopsies.Receives and processes gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens. Produces high-quality stained slides.Maintains proficiency testing as set forth by governing bodies.
