JOB SUMMARYWorks under general direction to provide analysis and develops algorithms and software for clinical and/or basic research problems.

Impacts data acquisition, management, and analysis in basic, translational, and clinical research, including clinical trials. The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in collaboration with Scottish Rite for Children is seeking a Data Scientist to join a newly established Multidisciplinary Orthopaedic data Science and Artificial Intelligence Center (MOSAIC) focused on advancing the application of machine learning in musculoskeletal medicine.

This interdisciplinary research initiative brings together orthopaedic surgeons, engineers, and data scientists to develop novel artificial intelligence tools that improve diagnosis, surgical decision-making, and clinical outcomes in orthopaedics. The center focuses on emerging areas including computer vision for medical imaging and surgical video, large language models for clinical text, and multimodal machine learning integrating imaging and electronic health record data.

The successful candidate will work closely with clinicians and researchers to develop AI models using large-scale musculoskeletal datasets including radiologic imaging, electronic health record data, and orthopaedic registries. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONRequiredEducationMaster's Degree M. S. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, (Bio)mathematics, (Bio)statistics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field or Bachelor's Degree B. S. with demonstrated experience in broadly defined areas of bioinformatics.

Experience2 years of post-graduation experience in data analysis and/or scientific software development for a Master‿s degree 4 years of post-graduation experience in data analysis and/or scientific software development for a Bachelor‿s degree JOB DUTIESAnalyzes and develops formalisms, algorithms and software for applications in biomedical research. Develops and maintains software tools and infrastructure for resolving specific problems.

Performs the development, testing and revision of programs in a team with diverse bioinformatics expertise. Advises and assists users and other personnel in analyzing, defining and resolving computational problems. Performs other duties as assigned.
