This person works as a team to provide food service that is safe, accurate, and responsive to the customer and patient’s needs. This person may work within the Diet Office in one or more of the following areas. Diet Clerk duties include processing patient and guest meal orders using phone, foodservice software, and electronic health record in a timely and accurate manner based on diet orders and restrictions.
Formula Tech duties include preparation and mixing of patient formula orders in a timely and accurate manner based on formula orders and safety guidelines. Human Milk Tech duties include preparation and fortification of human milk orders in a timely and accurate manner based on fortification orders and safety guidelines. Tray in Motion (TIM) Clerk duties includes working on trayline to check meal trays for accuracy and deploying trays from kitchen to tray passers in a timely and accurate manner using scanners, meal carts, and other transport equipment.
This person maintains cleanliness and sanitation of work areas and equipment. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer, patient, and staff interactions and is looked upon as the ambassador for the department of Nutrition and Food Services. Properly identifies patients and labels formula and human milk. Cleans and sanitizes work surfaces, work areas, and equipment. Cleans, organizes, and restocks work areas in a timely manner.
Sorts trash, recycling, and compost accurately. Performs required documentation for duties assigned. Utilizes all necessary IT applications to perform job duties.
Adheres to safety guidelines. 55 Yes Diet Clerk Processes patient meal orders via phone calls and electronic meal requests per diet order restrictions, likes, dislikes and allergies while maintaining patient privacy. This includes Understanding different diet orders and basic nutrition principles to guide patients on selection of meals. Consistently and correctly verifies patient name, date of birth, diet order, allergies, and other special needs for each patient before inputting selections.
Inputting patient selected menu items, snacks , nourishment requests into the foodservice software accurately. Continuously processing new admits and diet order changes. Answers all phone calls and electronic meal orders while providing excellent customer service to maintain a service level greater than 95%.
Runs necessary meal reports as needed for foodservice operations. This includes Printing and setting up tray tickets for opt out patients and other special patient meals for tray line. Maintains an organized and professional environment in the diet office.
Formula Tech Utilizes Computrition and Electronic Health Record to review formula orders and print reports/labels in a timely manner. This may include manually processing labels as needed. Processes ready to feed (RTF) pediatric and adult formula orders accurately.
Prepares pediatric and adult modular formulas to specific weight and measurement specifications, following formula recipes, policies and procedures while using aseptic technique . This includes understanding formula orders and basic rate conversion principles to ensure adequate amount prepared. Accurately labels and dates formula containers with all required fields.
Transports prepared modular formulas to designated unit locations/patient rooms in appropriate insulated equipment. Determines adequate stock needed by submitting requisition for supplies to storeroom. Rotates and stocks supplies following safety and FIFO procedures.
Reports and discards expired or damaged formula and supplies. Regularly cleans formula room equipment and space according to cleaning guidelines in order to maintain cleanliness of formula preparation room. Completes logs and other necessary documentation.
This includes Refrigerator and freezer temperature logs, cleaning and sanitizing logs, and formula tracking logs. Communicates formula related issues to patient nurse and dietitian in a timely manner. Human Milk Tech Utilize s Timeless and Electronic Health Record to review human milk orders and print reports/labels in a timely manner.
This may include manually processing labels as needed. Collects and stores human milk from patients in designated refrigerators and freezers. Thaws appropriate amounts of human milk from freezer when needed and uses fresh human milk first for processing orders.
Prepares human milk fortifications to specific weight and measurement specifications, following human milk fortification recipes, policies and procedures while using aseptic technique . This includes understanding human milk fortification orders and basic rate conversion principles to ensure adequate amount prepared. Accurately labels and dates fortified human milk containers with all required fields.
Transports human milk to appropriate designated unit locations/patient rooms in appropriate insulated equipment. Uses appropriate waste removal procedures to discard expired human milk and preparation items. Determines adequate stock needed by submitting requisition for supplies to storeroom and Material Services.
Rotates and stocks supplies following safety and FIFO procedures. Reports and discards expired or damaged formula and supplies. Communicates needs for donor human milk orders from milk bank.
Regularly cleans human milk room equipment and space according to cleaning guidelines in order to maintain cleanliness of human milk preparation room. Completes logs and other necessary documentation. This includes Refrigerator and freezer temperature logs, cleaning and sanitizing logs, and human milk tracking logs.
Communicates human milk related issues to patient nurse and dietitian in a timely manner. Tray In Motion (TIM) Clerk Performs final check of patient meal trays for accuracy and presentation. Reports and corrects any issues to meet quality and service standards.
Uses tray in motion (TIM) scanner to track trays leaving the kitchen. Responsible for keeping an appropriate cadence on trayline to ensure trays are assembled and deployed in a timely manner. Monitors tray tracking system utilized by tray passers to balance the number of carts and/or trays sent to tray passers for even and timely distribution of trays to meet on time delivery tray standard.
This includes Utilizing meal carts, dumbwaiters , TUG system to dispatch trays. Utilizing hospital wide communication tool ( Voalte ) to communicate to tray passers on each unit consistently following communication standards. Assembles nourishments and shakes for patients following standards. 5 Yes Other Functions and Responsibilities Performs other related Principal Food Service Worker duties as instructed by supervisor, may be reassigned to other work areas within Nutrition & Food Services as operational needs dictate.
Supports Patient Food Services operations as needed. Participates in training new employees and Dietetic Interns for shift duties as assigned. Reports fires or other safety hazards, responds to emergencies following procedures as in the case of fires, disasters, or floods.
Completes required online and in person trainings . Reports malfunctioning equipment or repairs needed to supervisor. Follows down time procedures when IT applications are down. 100% REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS High School diploma or equivalent A minimum combined 2 years experience in patient food service operations and/or customer service call center operations and/or nutrition education OR 3 years customer facing experience within the food service, hospitality or retail industries.
Read, write, follow written or oral instructions and be understood in English Ability to use math skills at or above high school level Basic computer skills This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations PREFERRED QUALIFICATION Two years of college or equivalent Some college level nutrition course work preferred State of California Food Handler certification or Servsafe certification REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS none
