Experience with quality improvement, patient safety, and hospital operations required. Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and leadership skills. BLS certification through the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers.

The Hospitalist Medical Director provides clinical and administrative leadership for the hospitalist program, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered inpatient care. The Hospitalist Medical Director leads by example, providing clinical hospitalist services for approximately 75% of total time commitment. . He / she serves as a key liaison between hospitalists, medical staff leadership, nursing, hospital administration, and other clinical departments.

Quality & Patient SafetyLead hospitalist participation in quality and patient safety initiatives. Monitor hospitalist-specific quality metrics and develop improvement plans. Promote evidence-based clinical practice and compliance with hospital policies and protocols.

Monitor outcomes including mortality, readmissions, hospital-acquired conditions, infections, medication safety, and other relevant measures. Participate in peer review, adverse event reviews, root cause analyses, and performance improvement initiatives. Establish physician accountability for quality and patient safety outcomes.

Facilitates data transparency and provides direct feedback to individual Hospitalists regarding quality and patient safety metricsOperations & Patient FlowPartner with hospital leadership to improve patient throughput, length of stay, admissions, and discharge processes. Reduce avoidable days and delays in care. Promote timely documentation, discharge planning, and transitions of care.

Collaborate with Case Management, Utilization Management, and Clinical Documentation Integrity. Support appropriate resource utilization and cost-effective care. Patient ExperiencePromote compassionate, patient-centered care and effective physician communication.

Monitor hospitalist-related patient experience results and address opportunities for improvement. Encourage clear communication with patients, families, and caregivers. Facilitates data transparency and provides direct feedback to individual Hospitalists regarding patient experienceStrategic & Financial LeadershipPartner with hospital leadership on strategic priorities and development of the hospitalist program.

Monitor hospitalist productivity, staffing, and program performance. Participate in budgeting, staffing-model development, and program improvement initiatives. Identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, access, and financial performance.

Regulatory & Medical Staff ResponsibilitiesPromote compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, state regulations, medical staff bylaws, and hospital policies. Participate in Medical Executive Committee and other medical staff or hospital committees as assigned. Support accreditation, regulatory, credentialing, peer review, and quality activities.

Clinical & Physician LeadershipProvide leadership and oversight of the hospitalist program. Establish expectations for clinical performance, professionalism, communication, productivity, and accountability. Support recruitment, onboarding, retention, scheduling, and professional development of hospitalist physicians and APPs.

Promote collaboration among hospitalists, nursing, specialists, emergency medicine, and ancillary services. Address physician performance concerns through coaching, education, and appropriate performance improvement processes. Effectively uses and role models current management techniques and theories, encouraging the decision-making skills of staff members and providing insight and leadership in complex situations.

Supervises the development of service policies, procedures, and operating guidelines. Collaborates with other services within the division. Ensures that information is disseminated to staff is monitored for effectiveness and changed as needed.

Understands and enforces all hospital and personnel policies and procedures. Lead and/or serve on hospital and Patient Care Services committees, teams, and work groups as required. Assigns individual hospitalists to participate and serve on hospital committees.

Performs other duties as assigned.
