EVP, Chief Information and Digital Officer - Temple Health

Temple Health seeks a strategic, transformative executive to serve as its Executive Vice President, Chief Information & Digital Officer (CIDO). This is a rare opportunity to lead the technology and digital agenda of one of the nation's most distinctive academic health systems — an organization that pairs a leading academic medical center and an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center with a deeply rooted mission of service to the communities of Philadelphia.

The CIDO will serve as a member of the Temple Health senior leadership team, reporting to the President & CEO of Temple Health with direct access to the Board of Directors on matters of technology strategy, risk, and investment. The CIDO will partner closely with entity Presidents, the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Human Resources Officer, and the leadership of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University.

• The Executive Vice President, Chief Information & Digital Officer (CIDO) provides strategic direction and operational leadership for information technology, digital health, data and analytics, clinical informatics, and cybersecurity across all Temple Health entities. The CIDO ensures that technology initiatives are tightly aligned with the system's clinical, academic, and business strategies while optimizing patient safety, patient and provider experience, and operational excellence. The CIDO is both the senior operator of enterprise IT — accountable for reliability, security, service delivery, and fiscal stewardship — and the system's chief digital strategist, accountable for the roadmap that carries Temple Health into consumer-grade digital access, responsible AI adoption, and data-driven decision-making. As a collaborative and visible leader, the CIDO must inspire confidence among clinicians, entity leadership, and the board, and build an IT culture defined by service, transparency, and accountability. Reporting Relationships The CIDO reports to the President & CEO of Temple Health, serves on the senior leadership team, and leads a team of approximately 350 FTEs, including eight (8) Direct reports. • TEMPLE HEALTH Board of Directors and relevant board committees Key Responsibilities The successful CIDO will:
• Develop and champion an enterprise IT and digital strategic plan aligned with Temple Health’s mission, strategic planning process, and financial objectives, and translate it into a prioritized, funded, multi-year roadmap
• Serve as the enterprise integrator for digital transformation — partnering across executives, entities, and functions to close performance gaps between business ambition and technology capability
• Design and enforce an IT governance framework that guides the intake, prioritization, and allocation of technology investments, with transparent communication of the queue, trade-offs, and roadblocks to all stakeholders
• Lead continuous optimization of the Epic EHR and ancillary clinical, revenue cycle, and access systems to reduce clinician burden, strengthen documentation and coding integrity, and improve patient care
• Establish enterprise standards for the evaluation, governance, and responsible deployment of artificial intelligence — clinical, operational, and administrative — including vendor selection, model oversight, and measurement of return
• Advance the system's digital front door: consumer-grade scheduling, intake, communication, and self-service capabilities, integrated with the patient contact center technology stack (Epic, CRM, cloud telephony, and channel orchestration)
• Ensure the security and integrity of all systems handling protected health information, partnering with the CISO to mature the cybersecurity program, regulatory compliance, and enterprise risk posture
• Drive the evolution of data and analytics governance, platforms, and tools so that leaders and clinicians work from standardized, accurate, and timely data
• Oversee all aspects of IT operations and service delivery within budget, with accountability for contracts, vendor management, staffing, quality, and service levels across all entities
• Serve as primary liaison with technology vendors for negotiations, implementations, and renewals, ensuring commercial terms and performance reflect the best interests of Temple Health
• Partner with the Lewis Katz School of Medicine and Temple University IT to support the research and education missions, enable secure research data access, and align shared infrastructure and priorities
• Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing, service-oriented IT team; break down silos, create career pathways, and cultivate the next generation of technology leaders
• Deliver regular, candid updates on IT performance, investments, and risks to senior leadership and the board
• Monitor industry, regulatory, and reimbursement trends and recommend strategic responses that support Temple Health’s growth, academic mission, and safety-net obligations Candidate Qualifications Education
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, health administration, or a related discipline required; master's degree (M.B.A., M.H.A., M.S., or equivalent) strongly preferred Experience
• Ten or more years of progressive technology leadership in complex healthcare organizations, with significant experience in a multi-hospital or integrated delivery system
• Demonstrated success optimizing an enterprise EHR; Epic experience required
• Track record of leading digital transformation — consumer-facing digital capabilities, contact center or access technology, and/or enterprise AI adoption — with measurable results
• Experience supporting the technology needs of academic and research environments strongly preferred; experience in urban, safety-net, or high-Medicaid settings valued
• Experience leading large teams (100+ FTEs) and managing significant operating and capital budgets
