Job Title: Facilities Mechanical Steamfitter Technician Senior Department: University Hospital | Facilities Administration Under the supervision of a supervisor, performs tasks that ensure the uninterrupted operations of mechanical systems and equipment.
Inspects, tests, installs, fabricates, modifies, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs all welded piping systems and equipment. Piping systems and equipment include, but are not limited to boilers, compressed gas systems, steam & condensate systems, air compressors, laboratory and industrial kitchen equipment, steam stations, heat exchangers, condenser water, condensate, chilled water and heating hot water. Responds to emergency situations and evaluates and corrects defects.
Assists other trades as needed; adheres to all safety practices and procedures; cleans and maintains work areas and equipment; attends meetings; properly completes documentation; provides a high level of customer service; communicates to customers, coworkers and supervision via written, electronic and verbal methods and devices; operates department vehicles; performs other duties as assigned. Actively supports our commitment to the university value of acting with integrity and personal accountability to establish a culture of professionalism in the workplace.
Shift, hours, days, and/or location are subject to change based on operational need in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement; may work overtime; subject to 24-hour emergency call. Minimum Classification
High school diploma/GED or equivalent combination of education and experience; three years’ experience in maintenance, pipefitting and/or welding trade and related equipment or equivalent combination of education and experience; Efficient skills and knowledge in using pipefitting and welding tools and equipment. A basic understanding of plumbing code compliance. Knowledge of piping components (i.e. types of valves, fittings, types of piping).
A valid driver’s license. Successful completion of probationary period. Valid OSHA 10-hour General Industry Safety and Health card.
Desired
Associates/technical degree or Vocational certificate in skilled trades/maintenance related field; boiler operator’s license (e.g., low pressure, high pressure); valid OSHA 10-hour General Industry Safety and Health card. Valid AWS Certified Welder certificate desired; boiler operator’s license (e.g., low pressure, high pressure); basic understanding of university building design standards (BDS) related to the maintenance and repair of building systems and equipment; basic understanding of the project process as managed by FOD Design and Construction Physical
Must be able to push and pull 70 lbs. and distinguish colors. Climb and stand on ladders for extended periods of time. Unusual Work Conditions: May work in hot, cold, dusty, or dirty environments for an extended period of time.
