The Financial Counselor 2-ED assists patients who are seeking treatment in our Emergency or Advanced Urgent Care departments to navigate through the financial process from the MSE to discharge or admission. Contributes to all functions of the financial office including functioning as a resource to colleagues. Verifies benefits, eligibility and facilitates authorization from payers and medical groups.
Obtains pertinent documentation to support authorization requests. Maintains ongoing communication with payers, primary care physician and RN service coordinators as necessary. Creates and executes financial contracts with patients and payers for both LLUMC facility and LLUHC professional services according to LLUMC policy.
These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed. Education and
Minimum three years customer service experience required; preferably in hospital-based registration, physician’s office, Medical Group registration specializing in Managed Care, Medi-Cal, Medicare, and/or California Children's Services. Experience with Federal, State, and County eligibility regulations preferred. Knowledge and
Excellent Customer Service skills required. Able to write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; deliver the highest level of customer service to all patients, family, internal and external customers; use a computer, printer, and software programs necessary to position (e.g., Microsoft applications, patient accounting, registration and insurance eligibility applications); operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the job.
