Day Shift Description:
The Financial Counselor, works directly with patients, family, and various hospital staff to ensure that patients are taken care of while on their journey with SJH. Financial Counselor functions consist of but not limited to creating and reviewing estimates with patients, discussing financial responsibilities with patients and/or their family where appropriate, setting up payment plans, referring patients to the Medicaid vendor, providing and reviewing financial assistance applications, reviewing high-dollar and self-pay accounts with leadership and other staff as needed, completing bedside registration, obtaining any needed signatures including consents and COB forms, and floating to areas within Patient Access dept to assist as need directed by management.
In all locations, the Financial Counselor will ensure that accounts are financially secure, meaning collecting demographics, insurance information, reviewing financial responsibilities consisting of co-pays, past due balances, and estimates.
Completing Coordination of Benefits forms Reviewing insurance benefits to complete estimates and provide estimates to patients Reviewing reports daily to ensure accounts are financially secure Escalating accounts that are not financially secure to appropriate leadership (ex: inactive coverage, self-pay, authorizations not completed) Point of service Cash collections (estimates, co-pays, past due balances) Closing out cash drawers Maintaining appropriate cash in petty cash drawer Documenting accounts (what did rep do with account, using smart phrases, follow-ups if needed) Maintaining Healthstreams courses Stay up to date on emails and Teams post, policy and procedures Standouts Knowledge on EPIC (maintaining updated knowledge) Ensuring proper documentation with charts/patient (bracelet and labels) Floorwork Registration (if not completed prior to seeing patient) All areas of the hospital, including but not limited to emergency department, observation and inpatient units.

Time & Attendance, Code of Conduct, Dress Code, Cell Phone Policy Performs data entry with a working knowledge of the unit specific computer systems, EPIC, Peoplesoft, Midas, etc. Demonstrates accuracy when performing the primary job function. Abides by established Personnel Policies and Procedures. Has knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations and abides by the same. Professional and Staff Development: Participates and or assists with the orientation of new or existing staff. Participates in Staff and Employee meetings/huddles Participates in voluntary and required in-service and education programs. - Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of National Patient Safety Goals. EDUCATION, TRAINING, CERTIFICATION AND
Bachelors or AAS degree is a plus. High school graduate a must with at least 2 to 3 years progressive experience in the field. Advanced degree is a plus/requirement depending on specific service needs and or requirements.
Ideally the candidate will have some supervisory experience. Certification/licensure as required by regulatory agency. Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.

$20.70- $27.90 Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The
