Food Service Worker - PT Evenings

ELLIS HOSPITAL POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: Food Service Worker I DEPARTMENT: Dining and Nutrition Services REPORTS TO: Food Service Supervisor SECTION I BASIC FUNCTION: The Food Service Workers in all department areas are closely supervised by the Food Service Supervisors and the Manager on Duty. They must have skills in basic food handling, kitchen safety, sanitation, equipment use and cleaning/sanitizing, and food safety, and they must work well using a team approach with other staff under the direction of a supervisor or manager.

Must be able to interpret and apply simple instructions. Communication requirements include the ability to comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to communicate and read the English language. The position is located indoors and is under normal working conditions. Should be able to push/pull 500 lbs, lift/move 50 lb. from the floor to the table, and perform moderately difficult manual manipulations requiring eye-hand coordination, such as using standard kitchen equipment and working on the tray assembly line. Mobility requirements may include the ability to squat, stand, and walk for a prolonged time (8-hour shift) and distance.

Sensory requirements include the ability to articulate and comprehend the spoken English language, and read and write the English language. SECTION V PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION: All Food Service Workers Use and keep work equipment/utensils in proper operating functions to provide quality products and optimal safety. Adhere to standards set by the department for sanitation of all equipment and food contact surfaces.

Adhere to the standards the department sets for food storage, handling, and portioning of all foods. Accomplish the day’s tasks as set forth by the position policies and procedures. Provide “on-the-job” training to inexperienced employees.

Kitchen Duties Set up and work the tray assembly line, placing items ordered from the menu onto patient trays. Portion and wrap all cold foods needed according to the cafeteria and tray line tally sheets. Deliver patient meals promptly, and retrieve patient trays from the units on time.

Scrape soiled dishes, sort and wash silverware, and operate the dish machine by loading or unloading dishware. Distribute clean dishware and carts back to appropriate places throughout the kitchen. Remove trash, clean the dish room, sweep, and mop the floor.

Cafeteria Duties Clean cafeteria tables and chairs. Set up coffee area, restock all areas as needed. Set up the cafeteria with hot and cold food for all meal hours; serve food in appropriate dishes using set portion sizes.

Perform other routine jobs assigned by the supervisor or the manager on duty.
