The Graduate Research Appointment (GRA) is a post-baccalaureate appointment for participants with an interest in biomedical research. The primary purpose is to provide a post-baccalaureate laboratory research experience that applies skills in science, technology, engineering or math to biomedical research including basic science or translational research. GRA participants will have the opportunity to participate in selected graduate classes and seminars while working in this role.
Additional Information: Prior hands-on research experience in a biomedical laboratory, including experience with mammalian cell culture. The ideal candidate should be highly reliable, detail-oriented, organized, and able to follow established laboratory procedures and supervisory direction carefully and consistently. Strong organizational skills, good follow-through, and the ability to plan and prioritize daily experimental activities are important.
The candidate should also have strong scientific documentation and communication skills, including maintaining detailed and accurate laboratory notebooks, documenting experimental procedures and results, developing or updating laboratory protocols, organizing experimental data, and contributing to scientific presentations and manuscripts. The candidate should be receptive to feedback, able to incorporate instructions into subsequent work, and comfortable asking for clarification or assistance when needed.
Flexibility and a team-oriented attitude are also important, including willingness to assist with shared laboratory responsibilities such as maintaining organized workspaces, managing supplies and incoming packages, and supporting other laboratory activities as priorities arise. Experience with immune cell isolation and culture, T-cell or Treg culture, lentiviral production/transduction, flow cytometry, and/or other cell-based assays is preferred.
This is a limited tenure position that has been approved for one year that may have the possibility of a one-year extension. This vacancy is not eligible for sponsorship, We will not sponsor or transfer visas for this position. Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree with a strong background in science, technology, engineering, or math. Authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorship now, or in the future (for example, be a U. S. citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee or asylee.
Students that do not meet these criteria do not qualify. Applicants who are currently in Graduate or Medical School are not eligible. Eligibility of applicants with advanced degrees above BA or BS depend on the specific degree
