JOB SUMMARY The Health Information Management Specialist is responsible for coordinating Health Information Management (HIM) functions to ensure accurate clinical documentation, regulatory compliance, timely coding, release of information, and support of the revenue cycle through effective health information management. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Health Information Management Monitor physician documentation deficiencies for inpatient, observation, swing bed, emergency department, and outpatient encounters.
Coordinate physician queries and collaborate with providers, coding staff, and clinical departments to resolve documentation deficiencies. Monitor coding work queues and assist in resolving missing documentation, charges, orders, laboratory results, and radiology reports that delay coding and billing. Perform encounter documentation and charge audits to support accurate coding and compliant reimbursement.
Monitor infusion documentation, mortality reviews, quality reporting activities, and other HIM compliance functions. Oversee Release of Information (ROI) requests and vendor performance to ensure timely processing and HIPAA compliance. Maintain confidentiality, integrity, and security of protected health information.
Departmental Support Cross-train with Patient Financial Services staff and provide coverage for other Business Office functions as needed.
