Position Statement: Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the Health Information Management Manager oversees the planning, organization, and management of health information services. This role ensures timely and accurate coding, supervises departmental staff, and maintains compliance with privacy and regulatory standards. The manager directs all medical record services and establishes policies, procedures, and departmental objectives.
Services include: record completion, release of information, statistics, transcription, indexing, abstracting, coding (hospital and professional, inpatient and outpatient), storage, and tumor registry. Key
Develop strategic and operational plans for HIM aligned with hospital goals Ensure timely and accurate completion of medical records per Medical Staff Bylaws Oversee privacy, safety, and release of health records in compliance with regulations Maintain and update the Hospital Chargemaster for coding compliance Supervise and evaluate HIM staff performance; provide training and support Maintain a minimum 96% coding accuracy rate for inpatient and outpatient records Apply knowledge of medical terminology and coding systems (ICD-10, CPT-4, DRGs, APCs) Participate in product, equipment, and procedural evaluations Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding conventions Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT-4, DRGs, APCs Familiarity with federal and state laws governing medical records Demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of medical terminology Maintains a 95% medical transcription accuracy rate Effective communication and technical skills Ability to manage staff and departmental operations Certification preferred: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or COC 3–5 years of medical records experience Strong computer and communication skills
