Major Job FunctionsThe following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job.

The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:Assesses the need for, develops and presents Infection Control in-service education for functional client departments, general orientation, annual review, medical staff and as neededAssists with development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and revision of Infection Prevention and Control Program goals, standards, policies and proceduresCoordinates multi-disciplinary and interdepartmental efforts to improve performance of infection prevention/control programs and servicesEvaluates patient care environments and facility services for infection control practices and hazards as neededConducts ongoing surveillance of infections as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by reviewing microbiology laboratory results, medical records, and consultation with staffReport communicable diseases and supporting laboratory data not previously reported (by other persons or departments in the hospital) to county health departmentsMonitors microbiology reports for clustering of organisms, unusual pathogens or infections that require special precautions or notification to public health authoritiesParticipates in On-call task assignment with the Infection Preventionists, answering calls and pages during the days, nights, weekends and holidays during scheduled rotationOther duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsThe following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:Education and Formal Training: Bachelor’s degree in nursing, medical technology, microbiology, epidemiology, public health, or other related field requiredCoursework in biostatistics, biology, microbiology, and public health preferredCurrent North Carolina professional license required, if applicableMust achieve CIC certification within 2 years of hireWork

3 years of relevant experience in a healthcare setting or similar required1 year of infection control experience preferredKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Ability to conduct analysis and formulate conclusionsAbility to demonstrate literacy in using computerized information systemsAbility to foster effective working relationships and build consensusAbility to maintain confidentiality of sensitive informationAbility to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlinesAbility to use judgment and make sound decisionsAbility to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organizationPhysical
