Identification of infectious disease processes Interprets diagnostic/laboratory reports Identifies epidemiologically significant infectious diseases Identifies infection prevention implications of multi-drug-resistant organisms Surveillance & epidemiologic investigation Reviews surveillance data for health care associated infections investigates clusters & outbreaks Understands criteria and responsibility for Public Reporting of Infections Preventing the transmission of infectious agents Identifies common HAIs in our health care system Participates in quality/performance improvement activities Coordinates environmental protection during construction Management & communication Understands regulatory
Det Norske Veritas (DNV), Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), Rural Health, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), etc. Participates in accreditation surveys Collaborates with risk management in the identification & review of adverse events. Education Assists with the development of education for employees, patients, and families Serves as a resource on infection prevention practices & issues
Bachelor’s degree in nursing or health-related field required . Master's degree preferred. Wisconsin RN license and/or license commensurate with education & experience required .
Certification for Infection Control within the first three years required . 3 to 5 years of clinical experience in area of degree and one year as an Infection Preventionist preferred.
