The Director of Inventory will lead hospital inventory operations with clear accountability for supply availability, inventory accuracy, waste reduction, and service performance across clinical and non-clinical departments. This leader is expected to build reliable processes that ensure the right products are available at the right time to support safe, high-quality patient care while also improving financial performance and operational discipline.
The role requires a strong operator who can partner effectively with nursing, procedural, physician, pharmacy, finance, and supply chain leaders to solve service issues, standardize practices, strengthen system utilization, and drive measurable results across the hospital or health system. POSITION EDUCATION/
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Operations Management, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree, including 10 or more years of progressive supply chain leadership experience leading large, multi-site operations.
- Eight or more years of progressively responsible experience in inventory management, materials management, supply chain, or logistics.
- Three or more years of leadership experience with direct responsibility for staff, performance management, and cross-functional operational initiatives. JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrated knowledge of hospital inventory control practices, replenishment methodologies, product flow, and supply utilization in acute care settings.
- Experience with enterprise resource planning systems, hospital materials management systems, point-of-use systems, and inventory reporting tools.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capability, including the ability to interpret data, identify root causes, and implement process improvements that strengthen service and control supply expense.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with clinical, operational, and administrative leaders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead process improvement, standardization, and change initiatives in a complex, service-driven environment.
- Lean/Six Sigma certification or comparable continuous improvement training is preferred.
- Experience supporting acute care hospitals, perioperative services, procedural areas, or multi-unit operations, preferred.
- Experience with value analysis, product standardization, par optimization, recall readiness, and supply disruption mitigation, preferred.
- Knowledge of hospital accreditation expectations and inventory practices that support audit readiness and patient care continuity, preferred.

Working Conditions: The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.
C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids).
