To assist the technologists in the performance of laboratory duties, which include but are not limited to labeling, organizing and maintaining COVID, blood chemistry, histology and urine samples and procedures. Responsible for providing technical assistance, expertise, day to day specimen problem solving and following all Laboratory safety guidelines. Essential Job functions: Preparation of specimens for testing which meet the laboratory’s criteria.
Readies specimens for placement onto analyzers, ensuring that the barcoded label is properly affixed to the specimen tubes and reference laboratory requisitions Organize and maintain lab storage, samples, and specimens Registers, retrieves, discards specimens as appropriate Familiar with tube types, test request and medical terminology Sanitize equipment and workspace Performs pipetting, organizing of samples as needed Troubleshoot problem specimens to find resolution Ensures that specimens were collected in proper additive or that additive is added before specimen is sent for testing Centrifuge specimens that are delivered to the lab after appropriate amount of time has elapsed for proper clotting Discard aged specimens in appropriate disposal units Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed, although not directly assigned that are within the scope of ability General Job functions: Perform all other duties as assigned Physical Job Requirements Endurance (e.g. continuous typing, prolonged standing/bending, walking lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling) Work requires sitting, standing, and / or walking for periods of up to eight hours.
Dexterity of hands and fingers Physical strength to lift heavy objects, carts, or items, taking frequency and weight into consideration. The normal performance of duties may require lifting and carrying objects: Objects 1 to 10 pounds. Physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job, taking distance and speed into account.
Balance is maintained during climbing, bending and/or reaching. Physical agility, which includes the ability to maneuver the body while in place. Education, Certification, Computer and Training
High School Graduate/GED, required Health Sciences degree (AA/AS, BA/BS), preferred 1 year related work experience, preferred Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, required Moderate-High level Computer skills, required Standard Office Equipment (Phone, Fax, Copy Machine, Scanner, Email/Voice Mail) Standard Office Technology in a Window based environment Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing required.
Possible exposure to infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a laboratory environment. Methods of Evaluation: Documented evaluations occur at the end of full training and periodically thereafter. Travel: None Required
$17.60 - $21.30 Hourly The provided compensation range is based on industry standards and salary determinations will be made based on numerous factors including but not limited to years of experience and location of position.
