Linen Technician will have the responsibility of ordering, receiving, delivering, shipping, stocking, and replenishment of linen provided by Materiel Services for use throughout the medical center. Is responsible to inventory and reconcile linen needs in the department and in other designated linen supply locations where assigned. He/she is accountable for reporting linen discrepancies to the team leader, and following up through resolution phase.
Linen Technician reports directly to the Linen Senior Lead. DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Linen Daily Functions: Offload clean linen from carts or truck and put in proper storage are Remove soiled linen from chute area and prepare for transportation offsite. Delivers clean exchange carts throughout the hospital within specified timeframes.
Delivers special orders to various departments in a timely manner. Collects used clean linen exchange carts and delivers them to the linen distribution area on a daily basis. Ensures the linen exchange carts are filled and stored in the proper location for transport.
Ensures adequate amounts of linen are available at all times, informing immediate linen in-charge when additional linen is needed. Responds to all STAT requests for linen in a timely and courteous manner, immediately notifying linen in-charge of any unfulfilled requests. Responds to all special request orders in a timely and courteous manner Deliver daily orders throughout the hospital and ancillary areas.
Restock Pyxis scrub machines and empty scrub. Roll scrubs for scrub station. Keeps Linen Distribution room clean, safe and organized.
Acts as the ears and eyes of the linen department, reporting any customer issues/requests to the appropriate area in a timely manner. Reports any damaged linen carts, in writing to his/her team leader in a timely manner. Process distribution of lab coats for various departments.
Receives and inventory stock cart exchange, enter data in Texlon daily. Assists other staff members when own duties are completed. Assists daily random quality assurance on clean linen carts on the nursing floors.
Receives TUGs; removes, distributes and/or places contents in appropriate storage areas; deploys TUGs.” Other Responsibilities Performs all duties as assigned by his/her team leader. Helps to complete tasks in the materials function that are not with his/her current direct job assignment. Renders him/herself available when responsibilities have been met to assist in areas that may require assistance within the department.
Demonstrates the values of team concept on a consistent basis. Actively participates in the department’s continuous quality improvement activities. Attends all staff meetings: reads and returns all monthly staff meeting materials.
Maintains security, orderliness and cleanliness in the Linen areas; adheres to established recycling standards. Meets all UCSF/Medical Center standards for attendance, professional behavior and grooming standards. Participates in ongoing training provided within the department, or requested as supportive of job functions.
Duties and Essential Job Functions Performs all functions of Linen Technician, without supervision. Must understand, perform, and be accountable for all required linen functions. In the absence of his/her team leader, candidate will make sure that work assignments are carried out appropriately.
Demonstrates the ability to assess, identify, and respond to urgent/emergent requests for linen in an efficient, effective, and appropriate manner. Responsible to be knowledgeable of and comply with all applicable infection control, health and safety policies and procedures as implemented by the department and /or work unit and the Medical Center. Demonstrates an ability to work cooperatively with others and adjust to changing work situations.
Understands the importance of public relations and maintains courtesy to visitors and coworkers at all times. Participates in departmental education programs, inventories, and audits. Maintains flexibility and performs other related duties as required.
Maintains an awareness of essential supplies, equipment (carts, heat shrink-wrap machine, hand held data system) needed to support the activities assigned to Linen and maintains those resources by careful use, storage, and monitoring their condition, and location, and reporting related problems to their shift Meets all UCSF/Medical Center standards for attendance, professional behavior and grooming standards. Participates in ongoing training provided within the department, or requested as supportive of job functions.
REQUIRED High School graduation or equivalent; ability to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions in English. Good communication skills. Ability to be pleasant, professional, courteous, and work in a cooperative manner.
Ability to move safely heavy supplies and equipment, up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand for an eight-hour shift, if necessary. Able to walk, climb stairs, and sit throughout the shift.
One year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. PREFERRED Previous Linen and Inventory Management experience. Computer Skills including basic Microsoft Office suite, and Internet use.
Familiarity with Windows 95/98, CE, or a short learning curve for those kinds of applications.
