Under the direction of the registered nurse (RN), provides nursing care in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures as well as with their State Practice Act. The licensed practical nurse (LPN) assists the RN with assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. The LPN is responsible for documentation of their care including interventions, outcomes, and patient/family education.
They collaborate with physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary health care team to provide continuity of care. The LPN is responsible for the direction and assignment of nursing interventions that may be performed by others as well as care and interventions delegated to them by the RN. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate patient care and is accountable to the policies and procedures of the organization.

Competent use of the nursing process to assist the RN in assessing priorities, formulating, implementing, evaluating and adapting the interdisciplinary plan of care to ensure quality of care is delivered. Contributes to patient assessment, prioritizing the data collection based on the patient’s immediate condition or needs within the timeframe specified by policy. Updates and documents patient’s plan of care, once it is established by the RN.
Upon admission and as appropriate, assists the RN with patient/family/others discharge planning and teaching needs. Delegates and assigns appropriate patient care to aides. Recognizes changes in patient status based on interpretation of assessments.
Reports findings appropriately and timely. Performs therapeutic nursing interventions in line with the plan of care. Documents all nursing cares and education accurately and timely in the electronic health record.

This includes, but is not limited to the age of the patient served: Provides appropriate patient care and initiates appropriate nursing action in a crisis situation. 5.

Actively engages in unit activities and team meetings and attends required meetings. Demonstrates active engagement in department activities and evidence-based initiatives. Demonstrates dependability/flexibility in meeting scheduling needs of the department and hospital.
Demonstrates willingness to float to other units as needed. Accepts responsibility for mentoring healthcare students. Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload.

The requirements listed below must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license or temporary from the State of Nebraska required. Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained within one full month from date of hire (Travelers-required upon hire) required.
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention program obtained within six full months from date of hire (Travelers-required upon hire) required. Previous Experience
