Description

Provide lymphedema occupational therapy to patients, including assessments, development of individualized treatment plans, program planning, implementation, and related documentation and communication to increase the patients’ functional independence. This position includes but is not limited to interventions such as manual lymphatic drainage, compression therapy, and patient education on self-management techniques.

Major Job FunctionsThe following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:Assessment & Treatment Planning: Conduct comprehensive evaluations to determine the severity of lymphedema and develop individualized treatment plansTherapeutic Interventions: Apply advanced techniques such as manual lymph drainage, compression therapy (bandages, garments, pneumatic pumps), and decongestive exercises to reduce swelling and improve lymphatic flowPatient

Teach self-care techniques, skin care, and home exercise programs to empower patients in managing their conditionCollaboration: Work closely with physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, and other healthcare providers in a multidisciplinary approach Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate medical records meeting regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., JCAHO)Equipment Management: Oversee and maintain lymphedema-related equipment and supplies Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor support staff, manage therapy sessions, and ensure adherence to treatment protocols Assesses the needs of the patient using evaluation tools and clinical observationsDevelops treatment plans, including goals, and methods to achieve identified goalsProvides goal directed treatment consistent with current OT practice standards and/or ensures that OTAs deliver goal-directed services appropriatelySelects and uses learning strategies to share occupational therapy treatment choices and outcomes with patients, family, care team and consumersEffectively uses available information sources to report therapy activities and patient performancesDemonstrates expanding mastery of clinical concepts and techniques to match the needs of patient care assignments and/or program developmentPromotes growth and development while evaluating performance and maintaining standards of assigned individualsComplies with department and institutional policies and procedures and assists with organizational improvement projectsAuthorized to have access to medications within their scope of practiceOther duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsThe following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:Education and Formal Training: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited academic institutionMaster’s degree preferredCurrent licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the state of North CarolinaCertified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT) certification or equivalent clinical experience in lymphedema evaluation and treatment requiredLANA certification or eligibility to obtain LANA certificationWork

3 years of experience managing outpatient oncology related lymphedema including ordering, measuring, and fitting garments for related edema reduction. 3 years of experience collaborating with multiple external vendors for obtaining garments for edema reduction. Including knowledge of required documentation and insurance authorization requirementsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English languageProfessional competency as a general practitioner of OT as defined by certification and licensureAbility to select age appropriate functional goals and treatment techniques for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patientsInterpersonal skills that promote cooperative patient and peer behaviorPhysical
