Mammography Technologist

PRINCIPLE

Routinely examines radiology requisitions in order to be aware of procedure ordered, diagnosis, appropriate means of transport and other clinic information Personally assesses patient before every procedure, modifying technique to accommodate patient’s age, health, and ability to cooperate. Documents appropriate findings in the patient’s medical records. (Progress notes, radiology requisition) Thoroughly explains procedures to patient, including breathing and positioning instructions.

Considers patient’s age, anxiety level, culture, physical status, religious beliefs and special needs when providing patient education. Identifies knowledge needed Produces high quality diagnostic medical images. Maintains knowledge of standard views Assists radiologist by communicating pertinent clinical information.

Competently performs the clerical tasks of the Medical Imaging department by locating patient and reports, scheduling exams, ordering exams and correctly entering information on the department computer Participates in cleaning and quality control of departmental equipment. Reports any and all malfunctions to supervisor As requested, assists in the instruction of students Demonstrates ability to perform work in an accurate and timely manner Demonstrates superior time management and organizational skills in order to maintain unit effectiveness during emergencies and times of peak activity Demonstrates awareness of the need to control expenses Demonstrates good critical thinking skills Considering various alternatives and choosing the appropriate course of action Consistently coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during the assigned shift Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient Maintains certification with ARRT Maintains annual CE credits as required by ARRT Demonstrates a willingness to both learn from and teach peers Demonstrates willingness to learn new skills and accept new responsibilities in order to control departmental cost Observes radiation safety procedures at all times Assists in keeping policies and procedures current for the department Updates knowledge on new techniques and procedures for the Radiology department Assist in identifying and correcting safety and risk management concerns Responsible for working with staff technologist to identify educational needs and document continuing education.
