The Manager Nursing Improvement functions as an expert nurse leader responsible for promoting optimal nursing quality through clinical activities, professional and public education, research activities, administrative functions, and quality improvement activities that transform structure, processes and patient outcomes. Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities: Functions as an expert nurse leader and patient/family advocate by coordinating and leading clinical practice and quality improvement initiatives for the nursing division.
Directs, supervises and evaluates nursing practice across the nursing division to promote standardized practices. Employs evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to direct nursing care and practices. Collects data through interaction within the three spheres of influence: patient/family, nursing/nursing practice, and organizations/systems to identify quality of care issues and potential risks to patient safety.
Analyzes clinical and systems data as a basis for program design and outcome measurements; identifies gaps in practice and system opportunities; optimizing patient safety and nursing practice. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement clinical standards, algorithms, policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines. Promotes patient safety and quality outcomes through collaboration, clinical inquiry, and clinical judgment using evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for nursing care and management.
Develops, implements, and evaluates evidence-based strategies and innovative models of practice across the continuum of care for patients. Provides regular meetings and other forms of communication with direct reports and other affected staff members including internal customer rounding. Reviews and provides feedback as indicated regarding nursing care for patients including education directed toward knowledge deficits, treatment planning, and discharge planning utilizing the nursing process.
Provides and documents consultation and education to nursing, medical staff and multidisciplinary colleagues. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to integrate the nursing perspective into a comprehensive plan of care for the patient and family. Identifies clinical opportunities and conducts research to advance the science of nursing practice.
Role models and mentors nursing staff and multidisciplinary team for disseminating, implementing, and evaluating research findings. Participates in need identification, selection, and evaluation of nursing products and equipment. Facilitates staff development and adherence to standards of care, individual goal setting and development of the team.
Collaborates with nurses to develop practice environments that support shared decision-making. Develops direct reports by defining roles/responsibilities and expectations, assigning and communicating performance, and promoting professional growth and accountability. Communicates and aligns work priorities to the team with the organizational vision, mission, values, and service standards.
