Manages the Sterile Processing and supply areas of Surgical Services. Provides on-site support for the reprocessing of surgical instruments and sets in compliance with the Department of Health, TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, and AORN standards and facility’s goals and policies.
Effectively manages staff: interviews, hires and trains; provides continuous feedback and evaluates employee performance; appropriately handles performance issues; delegates work assignments for the greatest amount of efficiency and productivity. Displays leadership skills, problem identification, problem solving, assignments, communication, motivation, evaluations, daily direction of personnel and disciplinary action.
Supports and participates in the continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of services provided. Acts as liaison to maintain excellent rapport with surgical staff and surgeons. Prepares annual budgets and provides input as necessary for completing monthly variance reports a.
Develops departmental goals and objectives in coordination with directore. Understands and complies with Infection Control, Safety, CDC, ARON, CMS, AAMI and OSHA procedures and regulations and monitors technician compliance. Demonstrates a positive role model in all behaviors, attitude and work performances.
Facilitates development of unit specific standards of care with realistic and measurable patient care outcomes. Analyzes daily operations and implements needed changes. Supports daily operations of all activities that relate to the reprocessing of reusable medical supplies and instrumentation including decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, and storage processes with all ser professional standards and regulations.
Maintains an ongoing evaluation of customer service to ensure that systems, policies, and procedures are convenient to those being served. Ensures compliance with requirements of federal, state and community agencies, regulatory authorities, and hospital policies and procedures. Exhibits excellence in customer service through appropriate attitude and interaction with all staff.
Demonstrates and upholds established standards of behavior, safety, and confidentiality, as well as TMCH and department policies and standards. Adheres to and supports staff in exhibiting TMCH values of integrity, community, compassion, and dedication. Performs related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's (BS) degree from a four-year college or university required, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Completion of a Scrub Technician program preferred.
5 (5) years of sterile processing experience, minimum of three (3) years experience in a leadership role in an acute care setting. LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION : AAMI Certification preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Knowledge of infection control and universal precautions when reprocessing patient care equipment.
Extensive knowledge of instrumentation and sterilization equipment/process. Effective interpersonal communication and organizational skills. Skill in strategic planning and developing staffing plans to meet not only current needs but future needs.
Verbalizes and demonstrates the ability to perform accurately and efficiently in all areas of Sterile Processing. Knowledge of infection control procedures. Skill in basic computer applications and keyboarding.
Ability to sterilize a variety of equipment and supplies. Demonstrated ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to respond to needs in a fast paced environment. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to act as resource for staff in SPD and OR regarding identification and assembly of specialty instruments and trays.
