Responsible for all activities related to the hospital's Trauma Program. Directs and organizes the services and systems necessary for a multidisciplinary approach to providing care to trauma patients. Ensures full and seamless integration of all operational components eliminating variation and aligning strategic and operational processes.
Accountable for ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies. Maintaining Level I Trauma designation is another large focus of the Trauma Services Manager. The Manager Trauma Services has the following duties and
Operations Provides leadership and direction for the hospital's trauma program delegating activities as required for safe, efficient and effective operations. Coordinate management across the continuum of trauma care, which includes the planning and implementation of clinical protocols and practice management guidelines, monitoring care of in-hospital patients, and serving as a resource for clinical practice. Monitor and evaluate the continuum of trauma care from the point of EMS entry to discharge.
Ensure implementation of policies, procedures, and standards that direct operations, creates operational efficiency and ensures regulatory compliance of the trauma program. Assist in developing interdisciplinary policies, procedures and standards that direct operations and facilitate the coordination of care. Develop and implement operating plans to ensure program objectives are realized.
Collaborates and cultivates strong working relationships across disciplines and with all levels of leadership. Responsible for the operation and oversight of the Trauma Registry Represent entity trauma program on various hospital and community committees to enhance and foster optimal trauma care. Work with EMS agencies serving the trauma population.
Provides direction in emergency or crisis situations. Maintain current knowledge regarding disaster preparedness and emergency management. Direct community trauma education and prevention programs.
Establishes community relationships that enhance program visibility Participate in the development of trauma care systems at the community, State, and/or National levels. Regulatory Compliance Using shared decision making, develops processes to maintain compliance with regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies (TJC, American College of Surgeons, entity leadership, etc). Ensures operations are carried out in compliance with these regulations.
Works collaboratively with medical staff to validate and sustain compliance with regulatory/accreditation standards. Monitor clinical documentation through routine audits to ensure compliance with applicable federal/state guidelines and accreditation requirements or standards. Identifies gaps and implements remediation plans as necessary.
In collaboration with entity Compliance investigate and respond to matters of concern related to alleged violations taking corrective action as necessary. Consults with Human Resources as appropriate regarding potential disciplinary action. Provides regular reports to leadership regarding trauma program compliance.
Quality and Performance Improvement Create a culture of continuous improvement and accountability ensuring the integration of quality and performance improvement into operations. Supervise the collection, coding and scoring of trauma data. Develop processes for validation of the data.
Utilize the trauma registry to facilitate research, performance improvement activities and trend reports. Analyze data, identify trends/areas for improvement in processes, structures, and systems impacting trauma care patient outcomes; develop a plan to close gaps and sustain gains as appropriate. Ensure compliance with policies and procedures as well as safety, environmental and infection control guidelines.
Active involvement in research projects including the analysis and distribution of findings. Implements evidence-based and best practices as it relates to providing excellent care in a cost effective and efficient care. Identify key performance indicators that need to be monitored and evaluated.
Fiscal Management Operationally responsible for the financial performance including operating and capital budgeting for the trauma program. Promote activities to reduce costs, enhance revenues and achieve operational efficiency. Manage the approved budget through frequent and regular monitoring.
Implement written action plans to address variances adjusting strategies as needed to meet budgetary expectations. Considers operational outcomes and financial implications when making recommendations to implement new services or modify current programs. Manages staffing levels consistent with volumes.
Human Resource Management Recruits and retains a quality work force. Provides a work environment which attracts and retains staff. Accountable for orientation, continuing education and competency verification for all staff.
Ensure Human Resource metrics (i.e. retention, vacancy rates etc meet established targets. Promote and foster a diverse, highly engaged and collaborative work environment within areas of responsibility. Utilize workforce metrics such as vacancy, retention and engagement to monitor, identify and respond to workforce trends.
Consistently practice strategic human resources management. Motivate others to achieve excellence in patient care, quality, safety, service and stewardship. Conducts regular meetings, informs team of changes in policy or procedure and provides information regarding overall strategic mission, vision and direction of hospital.
Mentor, coach and support direct reports, front line team and hospital leadership by building teamwork, staff development, and education, to achieve optimal performance and develop managerial and clinical talent. Ensures employee engagement survey participation rates and results meet established goals. Mandatory requirements are complete and required licensures, certification and/or registry are current and in good standing.
Maintain compliance with hospital and system policies. Monitor and manage performance using the disciplinary process as appropriate. Education Bachelor's Degree Nursing Required And Master's Degree Preferred Experience 5 Years Trauma related experience which includes at least 3 years direct clinical care Required 3 Years Progressive leadership experience Preferred Prior trauma program administration experience Preferred Trauma program leadership experience Strongly Preferred Experience with Large High Reliability Organizations Strongly Preferred Level I Trauma Program Experience Strongly Preferred Licenses and Certifications RN - Registered Nurse Licensed in the State of Texas Upon Hire Required And BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required And ATCN - Advanced Trauma Care Nurse Upon Hire Preferred Or TNCC - Trauma Nursing Core Course Upon Hire Preferred And ENPC - Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course Upon Hire Preferred Or PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Upon Hire Preferred And ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 90 Days of hire Required And Other Trauma Outcome Performance Improvement Course or Trauma Coordinator Core Course Upon Hire Required And Other AAAM Injury Scaling Course within 12 Months of hired Required Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively and professionally across disciplines and with a variety of distinct constituents as well as the ability to articulate complex information in understandable terms.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across and beyond the organization. Demonstrated ability to influence and coach for results. Demonstrated ability to lead organizational initiatives, accomplish results and achieve measurable outcomes or goals.
Strong analytical reasoning skills, including the ability to implement projects, and solve complex situations. Must be able to work in challenging situations, involving competing interests, and interdisciplinary groups. Clinical and compliance knowledge with Major Trauma Programs.
