We are seeking a Certified Medical Assistant II (MA II) to support our Neurofibromatosis (NF) and Cancer Predisposition programs within Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop expertise in a specialized area of pediatric care while working alongside providers, advanced practice providers (APPs), and a supportive multidisciplinary team.

Riley Pediatrics Hematology/Oncology | Neurofibromatosis & Cancer Predisposition Programs Medical Assistant II (Certified)

32 hours per week (0.8 FTE) No weekends. No IU Health observed holidays. Riley Outpatient Center Clinical Responsibilities (Approximately 80%) Prepare exam rooms and clinic spaces for patient visits Participate in daily team huddles with providers and APPs Review schedules and identify patient-specific needs Room patients and obtain: Vital signs Medication reconciliation PHQ-9 screenings Coordinate lab draws and central line access when needed Communicate patient updates to providers Assist with: Vaccine administration and coordination Urine collection Lab follow-up Infusion appointment coordination Patient navigation throughout their visit Administrative Responsibilities (Approximately 20%) Support disease-specific teams with follow-up and administrative tasks Participate in weekly office support days Assist with clinic coverage as needed Complete end-of-day stocking and department checklists Required Medical Assistant II (MA II) Certification Experience administering vaccines Knowledge of quality, regulatory, and infection prevention standards Medication administration and medication reconciliation experience Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment Comfort working closely with providers and APPs Ability to adapt in a fast-paced clinical setting Preferred Epic experience Pediatric healthcare experience Hematology/Oncology experience Experience coordinating lab workflows and patient follow-up Strong clinical experience Understands vaccine protocols and compliance requirements Demonstrates strong attention to detail Adapts quickly to changing priorities and workflows Communicates effectively with providers and care teams Thrives in a collaborative environment Successfully manages multiple follow-up tasks while delivering exceptional patient care

Under the supervision of the designated supervisor and assigned physician, performs duties associated with direct patient care and clinical direction to provide patient care given in accordance with the organization standards. Assures completeness of ordered procedures and treatments, assures smooth patient flow, performs general lab work, instructs patients concerning procedures, treatments and needs, and ensures medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and in a timely manner.

Performs registration and scheduling activities per organizational and departmental procedures. Maintains EMR files and performs general front office functions as needed. May perform computerized physician order entry, only if directed by assigned physician.

Expected to precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership. AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduation from a Medical Assistant program required. Current certification in medical assisting required from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC).

Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA required. Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding required. TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire preferred.

Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use and Standard Work Programs and concepts within 6 months of hire. Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures. Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers.

Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists. Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills.
