This person may be involved in both clinical and administrative areas, including assisting providers with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks.
This role requires a strong balance of administrative skills and interpersonal abilities. Provides information and resources to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinical services. All forms of communication to the office will be given prompt, courteous, and professional attention.
Patients will be greeted and/or assisted in the same manner. Employees in this position will ensure that patient information is obtained and accurately updated in the hospital’s electronic medical record (EMR). Information will be available so patients can be informed of clinic policies, procedures, services and other information as required or requested.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Supports patient care by organizing schedules, managing patient flow, assisting with rooming, performing screenings, and providing instructions to patients and families. Performs administrative duties including scheduling, verifying insurance, managing medical records, completing forms, and maintaining accurate patient charts. Processes and tracks orders for respiratory therapies (e.g., oxygen, sleep studies, CPAP, nebulizers, NIV) and ensures proper documentation in the EMR.
Communicates effectively with providers, patients, vendors, and DME companies via phone, email, fax, and electronic systems (e.g., PowerChart). Provides patient education on disease processes, respiratory therapies, home equipment, and medications. Assists clinical staff with meeting insurance and documentation requirements for patient care and therapies.
Ensures all required documentation (insurance, consents, records) is obtained, complete, and appropriately filed/scanned. Maintains accurate records, prepares correspondence, and supports office operations and workflow. Delivers excellent customer service while handling sensitive and confidential information.
Maintains a clean, organized, and compliant work environment. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS – Education, Experience & Education High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), required. Medical terminology preferred but not required.
Six (6) months' experience in a medical field is required OR an equivalent combination of education and experience related to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities. Associates degree in healthcare field, preferred. A technical diploma or certificate in Medical Assisting, preferred.
BLS is required. Central Registry is required. Additional Skills Ability to effectively communicate in English, both reading and writing.
Multi-line telephone knowledge. Computer knowledge. Ability to operate designated equipment as specified including computer keyboarding.
Basic clerical training, including basic filing procedures (both numerically and alphabetically). Ability to work under pressure with time constraints. Basic knowledge of medical record content and sequence.
Ability to function independently with minimal direction. Specific demands not listed: Possible exposure to blood and / or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products.
