Under the direct clinical supervision of an on-site provider, the Medical Assistant I assists in the delivery of patient care through both clinical and administrative support activities. This role performs delegated medical tasks, assists providers and nursing staff with patient care, and may perform clerical duties as needed. The Medical Assistant I utilizes the electronic medical record (EMR) for documentation and supports day-to-day practice operations and patient flow.
This position requires access to medication storage areas and the transportation of medications between storage and delivery locations in accordance with organizational policies.
Deliver an exceptional patient experience by greeting patients professionally, addressing questions and concerns, communicating delays, and supporting service recovery efforts to ensure a welcoming and positive environment. Provide clinical support to providers by preparing patients for examinations, collecting and documenting vital signs, health histories, screenings, and chief complaints, assisting with procedures, and reporting abnormal findings promptly.
Perform clinical testing and patient care activities including specimen collection, EKGs, vision and hearing screenings, point-of-care testing, medication and vaccine administration (as authorized), patient education, and care coordination activities to support quality outcomes. Maintain a safe, efficient clinical environment by disinfecting equipment and exam rooms, stocking supplies, ensuring equipment readiness, completing prior authorizations, supporting population health initiatives, and providing age-appropriate patient care.
Support practice operations and professional development through front desk assistance, EMR and communication management, regulatory compliance, safety reporting, participation in training and educational programs, and other duties as assigned. Work Experience Education & Experience - Required High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Special circumstances to consider an exception may include: (1 year of supervised work experience in a medical assisting field within the last 3 years; or 2 years of supervised work experience in a medical assisting field within the last 5 years). These should be vetted by the Human Resources Director and Department Director. Current BLS certification.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques. Knowledge of blood and body fluid precautions. Ability to perform basic clinical skills such as obtaining vital signs.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, team members within the practice, and other members of the organization. Demonstrates ability to work on a team and effectively communicate with colleagues and patients.
