You’ll need
Certifications
✓· Current CPR certification
✓· Certification as Medical Assistant (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (AMT), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), National Healthcare Association (NHA)
· Use CPR skills when required preferred
Education
✓· High school diploma or equivalent
· Graduate of an accredited school of medical assisting preferred
Qualifications
✓1-2 years experience

· 1-2 years healthcare experience preferred

· Measure and record vital signs, takes patient medical history and chief complaint preferred
Record information accurately in the medical chart preferred
· Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies preferred
· Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization of equipment preferred
· Assist with scheduling of tests and treatments preferred
· Prepare patient for examination preferred
· Phlebotomy, finger sticks, and collection of other lab specimens preferred
· Assist the provider with exams and minor office surgery preferred
· Adhere to and practice appropriate infection control policies and procedures preferred
· Screens, manages, and follows up telephone messages from patients, referrals, and pharmacies preferred
· Prepare and send prescriptions electronically per provider’s orders preferred
· Performs waived lab tests, EKGs, and administers injections preferred
· Applies dressing and remove sutures as ordered by the provider preferred
· Dispose of biohazard waste according to state standards preferred
· Maintain OSHA requirements and practice OSHA standards preferred
· Perform accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times preferred
About the role
The Rural Health Medical Assistant is cross trained on both clinical and administrative responsibilities. The clinical aspects include recording vital signs when interacting with patients, compiling patients’ medical histories and administering medications under direction of a supervising physician.
