Provide strategic direction, clinical leadership, oversight, and support for all hospital-based gynecologic services at St. George Regional Hospital.
This hospital-based position provides leadership and strategic medical direction for gynecologic care occurring at St. George Regional Hospital. The Medical Director is responsible for advancing safe, highly reliable, consistently delivered, evidence-based, patient-centered gynecologic care across the hospital.
The role provides clinical leadership for gynecologists, gynecologic surgeons, minimally invasive gynecologic surgeons, urogynecologists, reproductive endocrinologists, gynecologic oncologists, advanced practice providers, and other clinicians participating in hospital gynecologic care, regardless of employer affiliation. The Medical Director will work collaboratively with hospital administration, physician leaders, nursing, operations, clinical programs, clinical shared services, quality, patient safety, medical education, research, and other supporting services.

Scope The Medical Director - Gynecology, St. George Regional Hospital is a hospital administrative leadership role with regional and enterprise participation expectations as appropriate.
The position reports through the hospital Chief Medical Officer and collaborates closely with hospital administration, nursing leadership, operations leadership, the OB/GYN Department Chair or equivalent medical staff leader, the Senior Medical Director for Women’s Health, and applicable clinical program and specialty leaders. The role encompasses gynecologic care provided within St. George Regional Hospital, including inpatient gynecology, benign gynecologic surgery, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, urogynecology procedures, reproductive endocrinology procedures performed in the hospital, gynecologic oncology services, perioperative care, consultation services, and gynecologic emergency care.
The role does not include accountability for outpatient clinics or clinic operations and does not include employment decisions or direct supervisory accountability for physicians or advanced practice providers. Employment-related matters remain with each clinician’s employer. The Medical Director may participate in hospital medical staff, credentialing, privileging, peer review, quality, safety, and professional practice processes within the authority of those established structures.
Leadership Model The Medical Director is expected to be a model gynecologic clinician and physician leader, demonstrated through professional conduct and presentations; sound clinical and business judgment; integrity, passion, and energy for clinical program objectives; advocacy for Intermountain Health’s mission, vision, and values; effective communication; and reliable follow-through on responsibilities.
Provide strategic direction, clinical leadership, oversight, and support for all hospital-based gynecologic services at St. George Regional Hospital. Lead collaboration among gynecologists and other clinicians participating in hospital gynecologic care, including employed and affiliated physicians and providers, while respecting employer-specific reporting and employment structures.

Champion a culture of highly reliable, consistently delivered, evidence-based, patient-centered gynecologic care. Ensure that evidence-based clinical care standards, clinical guidelines, protocols, and best practices are developed, reviewed, communicated, and effectively implemented for appropriate hospital gynecologic caregivers.
Lead and participate in the development, standardization, and implementation of hospital gynecologic care models that best meet patient needs while considering available resources, technology, innovation, and industry advancements. Partner with hospital nursing, surgical services, anesthesia, and operational leaders to support safe and effective inpatient, perioperative, procedural, consultation, and emergency gynecologic care.
Provide clinical leadership for benign gynecologic surgery, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, urogynecology, reproductive endocrinology procedures performed in the hospital, and gynecologic oncology services, including coordination, clinical standards, and integration with the broader gynecologic medical staff. Facilitate effective relationships and communication among hospital gynecologic clinicians, department leadership, medical staff leadership, nursing, operations, surgical services, anesthesia, and administration.
Meet regularly with relevant leaders and clinicians to share essential information, receive feedback, identify barriers, and support successful performance of hospital gynecologic services. Attend and participate in applicable hospital, department, medical staff, Desert Region, Women’s Health, and enterprise meetings, councils, collaboratives, and programs. Lead or participate in hospital gynecologic service line meetings and provide regular review of quality metrics, clinical outcomes, patient experience, safety events, and programmatic improvements.
Partner with physician leaders and subspecialty medical directors to promote seamless coordination of gynecologic services and clinical programs across the hospital care continuum. Promote team-based care and develop standards and processes that support high-functioning interdisciplinary clinical teams. Encourage professional engagement, collaboration, learning, and professional satisfaction among physicians and advanced practice providers participating in hospital gynecologic care.
Lead and participate in education and training of hospital gynecologic clinicians and staff, including education related to clinical standards, protocols, surgical quality, quality and safety priorities, and assigned initiatives. Support orientation and integration of clinicians who are newly credentialed or privileged to provide gynecologic services at St. George Regional Hospital, in partnership with the appropriate medical staff and operational leaders.
Provide consistent and concise recommendations for evidence-based hospital gynecologic care to practicing OB/GYN physicians, gynecologic subspecialists, surgeons, and advanced practice providers. Lead evaluation of new technology, equipment, supplies, innovation, care models, and clinical practices for potential implementation in hospital gynecologic services. Support local innovation and facilitate sharing and scaling of successful hospital-based gynecologic practices through appropriate regional and enterprise channels.
Quality, Safety, Clinical Excellence, and Medical Staff Partnership Oversee and advance quality, safety, stewardship, and patient experience for hospital gynecologic care provided by physicians and APPs with privileges at St. George Regional Hospital. Assist in the development, implementation, and ongoing review of quality dashboards, departmental key performance indicators, key process indicators, and patient outcome measures for hospital gynecologic services.
Monitor and drive key performance outcomes; review results with appropriate hospital, department, nursing, operations, surgical services, quality, and medical staff leaders; and identify opportunities to improve care. Lead or support process improvement efforts and clinical program development directed toward achievement of hospital gynecologic quality, safety, utilization, stewardship, patient experience, and strategic goals.
Participate in peer review, HEAT reviews, root cause analyses, rapid event investigations, case reviews, and other established quality and patient safety processes involving gynecologic care; communicate lessons learned and support resulting clinical or protocol improvements. Address clinical quality, safety, professionalism, or performance concerns through appropriate hospital medical staff, including the Department Chair and Medical Executive Committee, and quality structures.
The Medical Director will not make employment decisions and will coordinate employment-related follow-up with the clinician’s employer when appropriate. Support the OB/GYN Department Chair as requested in development and periodic review of credentialing and privileging criteria for hospital gynecologic services, including advanced surgical techniques and gynecologic subspecialty practice, through authorized medical staff processes.
Lead or support efforts to reduce unwarranted variation in hospital gynecologic care, surgical practice, equipment, supplies, medications, and protocols while preserving sound clinical judgment and appropriate patient-specific care. Work in concert with hospital administrative and operational leadership to support regulatory and safety compliance in hospital gynecologic services. Optimize the patient experience in hospital gynecologic care and partner with Clinical Excellence and hospital leaders to address patient concerns through established processes.
Promote clinical care that is high in measurable quality, value, service, safety, and stewardship. Intermountain Operating Model, Strategy, and Stewardship Participate in strategic planning, goal setting, and performance review for hospital gynecologic services and applicable Women’s Health priorities. Work collaboratively with hospital and regional medical, operational, and nursing leadership in coordination of support services, including Clinical Programs, Clinical Shared Services, Clinical Excellence, Digital Technology Services, Research, and Medical Education.
Drive achievement of hospital and system goals applicable to gynecologic care, including quality, safety, patient experience, utilization, documentation, stewardship, complications, and financial performance. Collaborate with department directors, hospital administration, surgical services, supply chain, pharmacy, and physician leaders to optimize cost controls, efficient use of hospital resources, and value of care.
Support regionally aligned standardization of hospital gynecologic equipment, supplies, medications, technology, and protocols when appropriate for St. George Regional Hospital. Provide clinical input regarding hospital capital expenditures, equipment acquisition, supply selection, and other resource decisions that affect gynecologic care.
Partner with pharmacy and appropriate committees to support evidence-based medication use and stewardship for hospital gynecologic care. Support appropriate gynecology telehealth services that affect hospital care, as requested. Support research, medical education, and scholarly endeavors related to hospital gynecologic care.
Provide gynecology specialty review or consultation to Intermountain Health entities, clinical programs, and supporting services when requested and within the scope of the position. Use the tools and resources of the Intermountain operating model and demonstrate effective follow-through on assigned responsibilities. M. D. or D. O. degree from an accredited institution.
