Explore Career Pathways for Laboratory Professionals: Responsibilities The Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) functions as a laboratory professional who assists other laboratory personnel in specimen collection, specimen receiving, specimen processing, laboratory testing, process improvement, and quality initiatives. Ensure specimens are obtained in accordance with laboratory guidelines. Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider.
Follows proper protocols for specimen packaging and specimen transport. Responsible for patient registration, lab test ordering, specimen receipt, accessioning, processing and specimen distribution according to protocol. Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport.
Performs proper drug screen collection and processing, as assigned Monitors phlebotomy draw list and assigns/dispatches phlebotomists to draw specimens as assigned. Courier duties as assigned. Performs laboratory tests in compliance with policies and procedures as assigned.
Assists in preparing laboratory equipment for testing. Qualifications Job
High School diploma or equivalent. Basic computer skills and strong customer service skills. Preferred Job
Certification from nationally recognized agency as a phlebotomist upon hire. Certification from a nationally recognized agency as a medical lab assistant within 2 years of hire date. Experience working in the clinical setting.
