Responsible for the performance of a variety of moderate to high complexity testing to aid the diagnosis and treatment of disease under the professional direction of a qualified Medical Technologist or other certified Laboratory Scientist as defined by appropriate regulation(s). May have direct patient contact if performing phlebotomy, and/or therapeutic phlebotomy procedures. The scope of care may include the testing performed on neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric patients.
Responsibilities include basic troubleshooting and repair of selected instrumentation. Must have an understanding of the technical aspect of all diagnostic procedures being performed, including the steps to take for unacceptable test/quality control performance and results. Demonstrates flexibility and resourcefulness to help resolve or refer problems to the appropriate authority for final resolution or follow up.
May be asked to assume charge responsibilities that include workflow monitoring, and serving as the first line response for medical personnel with regards to problem solving and resolution. May be requested to assist with the clinical training of students and/or orientation of new employees. Supports the Laboratory's Performance Improvement Programs to ensure services exceed quality and customer service standards.
A high degree of cooperation, consideration and sensitivity is essential when communicating with internal and external customers. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Associate's degree in a chemical, physical, biology, biological science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution to include clinical laboratory training; or Successful completion of an official military medical laboratory procedures course duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician); or Meet CLIA Standard; Testing personnel qualification 42CFR493.1423 for moderate complexity testing and 42CFR493.1489 for high complexity testing as applicable.
