Medical Laboratory Scientist

The Medical Laboratory Scientist collects, processes, and performs laboratory testing in accordance with laboratory protocols. The position functions as a key operator and trainer for instrumentation in assigned discipline. The position functions as charge person as assigned.

Work

This position participates in the laboratory's 70/10 incentive program, working seven consecutive 10-hour shifts (Tuesday through Monday), every other weekend, and rotating holidays. Scheduled hours are 2:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on weekdays and 1:45 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. on weekends and holidays. Employees in this program work 70 hours per pay period while receiving compensation equivalent to an 80-hour pay period.

Required

Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or field related to area or specialty. Licensure/ Registration/ Certification: American Society of Clinical Pathology or National Certification Agency, HEW or military certification is required. New hires must attain certification within 12 months of hire.

Failure to attain certification will result in demotion or loss of position. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proven proficiency in the operation of the following: Personal Computer, Telephone, Fax Machine, Photocopier, Printer, electronic medical record, and all laboratory instrumentation used in their area of expertise.
