Licensure
✓certification as a Professional Coder (CPC) is required upon completion of Medical Coding course. **To Scribe: Valid nursing license required to dictate discharge summaries.
Education
✓High School Graduate. Medical Records/HIM experience required. Completion of a Medical Coding course is required; certification as a Professional Coder (CPC) is required upon completion of Medical Coding course. **To Scribe: Valid nursing license required to dictate discharge summaries.
Qualifications
✓Job Description: Responsibilities include but are not limited to chart assembly and analysis, coding using ICD-10-CM and DSM V, abstracting.
✓Ensuring Medical Records Department is organized, assisting with performance improvement studies, filing, record review, responding to internal and external customer inquiries.
✓Job Specifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily.
✓The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
✓Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities, who are otherwise qualified, to perform the primary functions.
✓Three years’ experience in Health Information Management required.
✓Knowledge / Skills: Knowledge of medical and psychiatric terminology.
✓Knowledge of DSM-V and ICD-10-CM coding and ability to abstract charts.
✓Must be highly proficient in computer applications and MS Products.
✓General Working Environment: Hospital setting.
✓Staff working in this position may be required to intervene and assist with aggressive patients.
✓Works in a well lighted and ventilated setting, is subject to frequent interruptions, and is involved with the patients and personnel throughout designated unit under varying conditions and circumstances.
Ability to code diagnoses using DSM-V and ICD-10-CM coding manuals preferred.
