Performs routine and complex laboratory analyses, identifies and corrects problems within the scope of training, stays current in laboratory theory and technique, and assumes responsibility for problem solving. Responsibilities PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY): Performs and reports routine and complex laboratory analyses that require a complex network of steps. Uses set protocols and guidelines and independent judgment to evaluate the credibility and accuracy of test results. Performs work in an efficient manner by coordinating testing steps to achieve maximum productivity.
Operates, maintains, and repairs clinical laboratory equipment within the scope of training including routine preventive maintenance, reagent preparation, calibrations, and safety checks. Keeps appropriate persons informed of instrument problems and resolutions. Maintains currency in the field through completion of all mandatory competencies and training modules, regular review of departmental policies and procedures and participation in continuing education opportunities.
Performs and records all quality control procedures. Evaluates the results of quality control and implements corrective action when indicated. Keeps appropriate person(s) informed of ongoing problems and resolution of problems.
Competently accessions, triages and processes specimens in preparation for testing and transit. Evaluates samples for acceptability. Follows all safety policies and procedures.
Minimum Required: Associate's or bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science or medical technology OR Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, microbiology, etc. from an accredited institution. License & Certification: Preferred: MLT(ASCP) certification or equivalent Years of
Preferred: Experience in a full service laboratory
