✓Requirements
Licensure
✓North Dakota and Iowa: Require Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing.
✓CNA certification must be maintained with the State Board of Nursing.
✓Minnesota: Must have nursing assistant certification, have completed the 75-hour course and be registered with the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry.
✓CMA certification must be maintained with the State Board of Nursing.
Certifications
✓Maintains all department specific required certifications.
✓Successful completion of a state-approved Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course once CNA certification is obtained.
✓South Dakota: Must successfully complete the state approved Certified Medication Aide (CMA) course.
✓For all Good Samaritan Society Locations: Must have the state required certified/trained medication aide certification (CMA or TMA).
Education
✓High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
Qualifications
✓A minimum of 12 hours continuing education are required annually based on state requirements.
✓When applicable, may need a valid driver's license and auto insurance.
✓Successful completion of a state-approved Trained Medication Assistant course.
✓It is assumed that one must have their certified nursing assistant (CNA) certification prior to attaining their TMA/CMA.
Minimum age of 18 preferred. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience preferred.
