Mental Health Clinician (SPARK - Successful Pre-school Adjustment & Readiness for Kindergarten Program)

The SPARK program (Successful Preschool Adjustment and Readiness for Kindergarten) provides services to children who predominantly range in age from 2-8years old. The program often provides in-class intervention to children experiencing difficulty being and/or feeling successful in preschool. The multi-disciplinary staff consist of Social Workers, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists, Psychologists, and Developmental Specialists.

Along with in-class intervention, the SPARK program also provides family therapy, individual play therapy, and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation. We serve children and families in Alameda County, with a primary focus in Oakland, Alameda, and Hayward. The SPARK team is committed to providing culturally responsive and trauma-informed Mental Health services.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION: Behavioral health care services at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals emphasize a collaborative family centered approach and interface with all systems of care that serve children birth to 21. We are committed to delivering culturally accountable, evidence based, and trauma informed behavioral health care to the children in our community, including those with the highest risk and need, and those who are marginalized or underserved.

Behavioral health care services aim to be the premier behavioral health care institution for children in northern California, with proficiency in clinical care, training, research and evaluation and policy. Responsibilities % of time Essential Function (Yes/No ) Key Responsibilities (To be completed by Supervisor) 30 Y Under direction of supervisor delivers educational / behavioral interventions to patients / participants according to protocol. 25 Y Conducts patient intake and documents appropriately for clinician review.

Supports coordination of care with family, clinicians and agencies. 20 Y Assists in developing and implementing intervention strategies. 10 Y Receives regular feedback on clinical techniques employed on assigned cases. Records patient progress documentation accurately and according to protocol. 5 Y Develops and implements learning activities. 5 Y Works with a variety of behavioral health programs and activities. Bachelor's degree in related area and 1+ related work experience; and/or equivalent experience Basic skills in providing behavioral / educational interventions. Knowledge of applicable laws and ethical standards associated with profession. Basic knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

Effective verbal and written communication. Demonstrated active listening and persuasion skills. Skills in collaborating with interdisciplinary team.

Knowledge of business software and electronic / medical records systems. PREFERRED: Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology or Social Work. Registered as an intern with California BBS At least one year of experience with working with early childhood from 0 to 5 years old
