Job Requirements Build Your Career in Advanced Neuroscience Care University of Maryland Capital Region Health is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Neurocritical Care team in Largo, Maryland, on a part-time basis . This is an exciting opportunity to practice within a dynamic neuroscience program caring for complex and critically ill patients. You'll work alongside a multidisciplinary team supporting neurocritical care, neurosurgery, neurointerventional radiology, and elective neurosurgical services .
The primary focus of this position will be Neurocritical Care , with opportunities to expand your clinical expertise through training and potential cross-coverage of other APP-led service lines. As a Neurocritical Care APP, you'll collaborate closely with physicians, fellow APPs, nurses, specialists, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team to provide comprehensive care to critically ill neuroscience patients. Your responsibilities will include: Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive care to critically ill patients Obtain comprehensive medical histories and perform physical examinations Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds Order and interpret diagnostic tests and laboratory studies Develop initial diagnoses and treatment plans in collaboration with the physician team Manage and coordinate care for complex neurocritical care patients Communicate effectively with attending physicians, consulting services, nursing teams, patients, and families Educate and counsel patients and families throughout the course of care Perform advanced bedside procedures within the provider's approved privileges and demonstrated competencies Provide wound care and suturing as clinically appropriate May first assist in the operating room when necessary Support continuity and full clinical coverage across the neuroscience service Expand Your Procedural Expertise This role offers opportunities to develop and maintain specialized procedural skills within a comprehensive neuroscience program.
Depending on training, competency, and approved privileges, procedures may include: Placement and management of intracranial monitoring systems External ventricular drain (EVD) placement VP shunt taps Suturing Advanced wound care Other procedures included within the provider's approved delineation of privileges More Than Neurocritical Care While your primary responsibility will be supporting the Neurocritical Care service, you'll be part of a broader neuroscience team that includes neurosurgery, neurointerventional radiology, and elective neurosurgical care .
APPs may have opportunities to train and provide cross-coverage for other APP service lines, allowing you to broaden your clinical experience while helping maintain comprehensive coverage across the organization. Qualifications Physician Assistants Bachelor's degree required Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program Current NCCPA certification Active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Physicians Nurse Practitioners Bachelor's degree and prior RN experience Completion of an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program Active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Nursing Additional Requirements At least one year of neurosurgery or neurocritical care experience preferred BLS and ACLS certification required ENLS and ATLS certification preferred Must successfully complete credentialing through the UM Capital Region Health Medical Staff Office Must meet applicable Maryland Board of Physicians or Maryland Board of Nursing standards and procedural protocols Compensation is commensurate with clinical experience.
