Role Purpose The nurse practitioner functions within their scope of practice as a healthcare provider, working within a multidisciplinary health team to provide comprehensive care to patients and families across practice settings. They demonstrate a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses commonly encountered within the inpatient setting. The role demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge, interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, and systems-based practice.
They work with staff, nurses, physicians, and medical/surgical trainees to assure safe, effective, quality patient care. The position requires coverage of evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays. Responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion, and care coordination for patients and families with acute and chronic health needs in an academic inpatient setting. Communicates and collaborates effectively with patients, families, physicians, medical/surgical trainees, and other health professionals. Demonstrates the highest level of accountability for professional practice by participating in professional development, quality initiative/performance activities, and implementing standards of care within area of specialization.
