Nursing Assistant - Orthopedics

Job Overview Fairview is looking for a Nursing Assistant to join our St. John’s Hospital team in Maplewood, MN. This position is 48 hours per two weeks on the Evening shift, for 8 hour shifts, every other weekend, with a variable schedule.

Our 184 bed facility offers a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. About This Unit: This is a 33-bed Orthopedic and Medical Surgical unit comprised of Orthopedic Surgical patients that may have fractured hips or ankles. Cervical, thoracic and lumber spine surgical patients are also cared for on this unit.

The Medical Surgical population includes respiratory patients with pneumonia, COPD, and Asthma. A range of Medical Surgical patients including appendectomies, gall bladder removal, blood clots and/or kidney stones also make up the patient population. A member of the interdependent team led by a designated RN, is accountable to perform patient care duties and activities for a group of patients.

Performs such care as: vital sign checks, bladder scanning, blood sugar testing, am bulates with patients, transfers, helps patient eat, showers and bathes patients, provides incontinence care, repositioning of patients, & helps with oral cares. Documentation of cares provided and r eports patient care data and progress of outcomes to designated RN. Job Expectations: Demonstrates dedication to the universal guiding principles of the patient care model in order to achieve the Fairview Nursing vision.

Supports the Nursing Process to achieve outcome focused patient care. Supports comprehensive nursing theory based on Watson's theory of caring aligning with the practice standards of the American Holistic Nurses' Association and the nursing care model (Professional Partnership Model) to acquire the Nursing vision. Communicates accurately and efficiently with patient/family and health care team members.

Reinforces patient education as advised by clinical staff. Documents patient information in EHR and/or other electronic system in accordance with program standards, department policies/procedures. Maintains knowledge of, and follows all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.

Performs other responsibilities as needed/assigned. Required Qualifications Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program. and Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program. or Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting.

(Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician) or Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program or Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position.
