Facilitates patient access to Radiology services by providing accurate and efficient registration and check-in services for scheduled and unscheduled patients. Responsibilities include: Obtaining and verifying accurate patient demographics, identification, authorization for services, and insurance information in accordance with The Joint Commission requirements. Obtaining completed and signed radiology orders and entering and scheduling orders in EPIC.
Verifying demographic and financial information and electronically filing required documentation in OnBase. Ensuring basic ICD-10 coding appropriately reflects the signs, symptoms, and diagnosis documented on the request for service. Following federal regulations and organizational policies to ensure legal and regulatory compliance, including HIPAA and medical necessity requirements.
Verifying medical necessity according to insurance carrier guidelines and protecting the financial interests of the organization. Assisting Financial Specialists with obtaining required patient waivers, such as an ABN, when applicable. Scheduling, canceling, and rescheduling patient appointments as needed while maintaining patient confidentiality.
Working closely with Financial Specialists to support point-of-service collections, assist patients with their financial obligations, and help maximize reimbursement for the organization. Providing administrative and operational support to Radiology Technologists and other clinical, technical, and clerical staff throughout the hospital system and community. Maintaining a professional, courteous, and patient-focused approach while ensuring accurate and timely completion of registration and scheduling responsibilities.
Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required. Continuing education beyond high school preferred. A minimum of two (2) years of clerical or customer service experience is required, with at least one (1) year of healthcare experience preferred.
A two-year degree may substitute for one (1) year of required clerical or hospital/medical practice experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated ability to provide courteous, patient, and professional customer service to maintain positive public relations. Strong customer service and communication skills, both in person and over the telephone.
Proficiency with personal computers and keyboarding required. Familiarity with ICD-10 and CPT codes and medical terminology preferred. Knowledge of EPIC, Biscom, OnBase, insurance terminology, and anatomy preferred.
Strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills with excellent attention to detail. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment. Comfortable requesting and providing information to clinics, physicians, patients, and technical/clinical staff.
Ability to multitask, organize, prioritize responsibilities, and manage competing demands. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Motor Vehicle Requirements This position does not require employees to operate a personal or Shands vehicle for assigned business purposes.
Note: A frequent driver is defined as an employee who uses their personal or Shands vehicle for work purposes at least once daily, at least five individual trips per week, or an average of more than 150 miles per week in the performance of their job. Licensure/Certification/Registration None required.
